My new (old) DC came in, and it works, so I went off to Soul Calibur. Unsure if I should delete my old save and re-attempt the Mission Mode again, I just might. It didn't take *too* long to unlock everything again.
I forgot how jaw-droppingly amazing this game looks on the DC. Namco ported it *perfectly*. I love the Coliseum stage (Rock).
I fell into a button masher pattern too quickly here. It's good to go to Practice mode, read the move lists, watch the demonstrations, and incorporate them into your game.
Still good to know I'm pretty adept w/Maxi. Love that one move he's got where he does a handstand and spins the weapon on his FOOT (and all the tiny life bar slivers that fall off the opponent -- COOL feature)

Re: Together Retro: Soul Calibur
Got a chance to put this one in this morning. Played through with a couple of characters. I like that the single player is fairly easy. I can get through it without looking up special moves or anything like that. My brother had this one back in the day, but we played more DOA. I will probably spend more time with this later.
So does anyone else see motion artifacting in this game? I have an analog SDTV (Sony Wega Trinitron), and the DC is hooked up through s-video. I swear I see what looks like interlacing artifacts during fast motion, but that can't be the case on in interlaced display. Still looks good, maybe I'm just spoiled from modern 3d engines.

I like the DOA games a lot more than the SC games personally.Hatta wrote: My brother had this one back in the day, but we played more DOA. I will probably spend more time with this later.

So I think I figured out that my main should be Sophitia. Between her double quarter circle vertical stab, up kick followed by a horizontal upon landing, followed by a vertical launch, followed by a juggle, and her quarter circle horizontal two-hitter, I seem to be able to take care of anything. Does she appear in any of the later games?

she's the best and she's in II, III and IV. Although you have to unlock her in III. And III sucks ass.GameMasterGuy wrote:So I think I figured out that my main should be Sophitia. You have to unlock her in II aswell, along with Yoshimitsu, Cervantes and Seung Mina. Those guys always seem to need unlockednoiseredux wrote:she's the best and she's in II, III and IV. Really? DOA always felt like a bad counter-fest to me. All you had to do was counter, and you would pretty much auto-win.noiseredux wrote:I like the DOA games a lot more than the SC games personally.Hatta wrote: My brother had this one back in the day, but we played more DOA. But you could counter counters with throws.Ack wrote:Really? DOA always felt like a bad counter-fest to me. First DOA was fun. Bayman was my fav character and certainly dished out some pain
Back to SC
2:44 was my best with Mr Heishiro Mitsurugi.
Gfx were awesome when I first saw them, and still impress to this day.
I recently bought SCV and first impressions are mixed. It'll be interesting to play these titles side by side and compare. But if SCV doesn't have Beyond Horizon then it's game over!
