You guys are far too lenient. This is big enough of a deal for me, that I'll skip the next-generation XBox. And I'm a huge fan of the XBox line, usually defending the often ridiculed original XBox.

Some Western brogame developers are happy about this apparently.

Wonder what the Japanese developers think?

Honestly, part of me hopes Microsoft tries this and that the console fails.

Volition used to be good a long long time ago. See: FreeSpace.

Sorry Volition doesn't do everything Japanese enough for you, but they're a great developer and certainly not "brogame."

I imagine that the Japanese developers would actually like it too. This gets them more money, and everybody loves more money.

However, when you think about the Japanese developers on the Xbox, what is there besides shmups, the occasional Platinum game, and Crapcom stuff? Arguably, shmups and Platinum could move to Wii U next gen. Crapcom? Multiplatform and try and push their own DRM.

I don't see how Freespace would count as a Japanese-enough game. Since then they've released a mediocre FPS series and a GTA knockoff series.

The original Red Faction was revolutionary, and the reboot isn't a first-person shooter. And you've never played Saints Row The Third, so we can end that conversation there.

Am I the only person here that really doesn't care?

Personally, while I think it's a bit scummy to remove the option to play used games. On PC I've been living with it for a while.

However, I have no issue with Online Pass and other such things. It's a used product. Digital media is the only thing that is usually "as good as new" when bought used most of the time, and considering how many people buy used games, I see no problem with them trying to at least earn some money back through people having to purchase an online code for certain things.

While I'm not a fan of them blocking out online completely, some progress is being made in that area. The new SSX is a good example. It doesn't block you out of online play. It just limits your progression and leveling. This seems completely reasonable to me. IIRC, everything in the game is still unlockable, you just wont get experience or whatever from online events.

I just like the idea of not having lots of things taking up space. That's why I transferred all my optical media (DVDs and games, except those in box sets or rare items, or my GameCube games due to the disc size) to Targus cases, no longer buy UMD games for the PSP, don't keep the boxes for DS games (I have a Mentos can for the gamecards), and why I'm switching over to digital versions of physical media (books and games, though not movies yet).

The original Red Faction was a mediocre game with a revolutionary engine they had no idea what to do with. I had more fun with the glass house tech demo.
