Hear hear. The first thing I noticed about 3D TVs when I tried one out is that the resolution is halved. It's part of the reason 3DS games don't look as good as GCN games like they were saying before launch.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:It's okay in racing games. Otherwise I don't care for it. I'd rather have the higher resolution.GameMasterGuy wrote:Oh, thought that it was a pretty big deciding factor. Fan status from my point of view before seeing your post:
Sega: GEN had no fan, DC had one.
Sony: PS2 onwards had fans, now I know PS1 didn't.
Nintendo: SNES/N64 had no fans, and Gamecube lacked another kind of fa- *shot* (just making fun of how the GC isn't as appreciated as the PS2, I'm a personal fan, so don't quote this and post a text wall of all the reasons it's underrated)
Microsoft: 360 has a fan.
Now then, on-topic, what's everyone's thoughts on the 3D itself? I find it to be a gimmick in most games, but it genuinely helps in flying games like PilotWings and they flying segments of Rayman 2 toward the end of the game.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
For me, the stereoscopic 3D isn't a gimmick but adds to the experience. Using the hang glider in Pilot Wings with the 3D cranked to 11 is just mesmerizing, though I admit not all games benefit from it (Cave Story 3D - bleh).
Resolution halved for cable-streamed content, yep but not if you're watching a 3D movie from a 3D Blu-ray player (that's full 1080p).BoringSupreez wrote:Hear hear. Thats not how it works. Yes broadcasted content is lower res, simply because its easier and less costly to broadcast as such. But whether or not you get full 1080p depends entirely on the display you are watching on.xan_racketBOY_fan wrote:For me, the stereoscopic 3D isn't a gimmick but adds to the experience. If its a Passive display the resolution is halved. These displays use the non-electric, light weight glasses. This is also what you watch 3D movies in the theater with. Active displays do full 1080p. They use the battery operated, often heavy glasses. The 3DS is a passive display that cuts out the need for glasses by using a parallax barrier on top of the regular display panel.

Well, looks like the info I found was incorrect. I guess I'd better remember this as I am a stereo compositorMrHealthy wrote:Thats not how it works. Just to clarify as my wording may come off as miss leading, when I said that whether or not you get full 1080p depends on the display, I was refering to 3D blu-ray content.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
So I got my 3DS working again and downloaded Donkey Kong from the virtual console only to discover that it doesn't feature any of the Super Gameboy enhancements, which means-among other things-that you can't play it in color
Nice lazy release there Nintendo, cause the 3ds can obviously handle those enhancements easily. Oh well, at least it only cost me like 3 or 4 dollars, but I still feel sort of ripped off. Probably should have downloaded Super Mario Land 2 instead

They never said that they did them in the Super Game Boy upgrades so why would you think that it would? I'm sorry but I feel like bitching like this is dumb. Just be glad we are getting old games that are decent for our VC and not mostly trash. I do not feel like they have done lazy releases for the VC at all.
