I'm #1 on the Japanese, expert difficulty, Survival Mode leaderboards (PSN) by a good margin, but with a crappy score. Must mean no one's playing that mode. Racketboy peeps, go ahead and knock me down!

Oh yeah, feel free to add me for multiplayer. PSN tag is "NightStartMugen".

I know that feel bro. I got to #7 on the Banjo Tooie XBLA leaderboards for the last minigame in about three minutes.

LOL, good stuff!

I put up a score for Survival Mode, Expert Difficulty on the USA ROM set. It's 100 something, kinda low, but second place! The guy in first has about 140, so it looks like no one's posted a 1 life clear to either version yet. I've come close on the Japanese version (died on the final form of Burns), but that was on an offline Xbox 360.

If you guys feel like picking apart another moronic review, here's one from EGM

Remember the people who wrote these dumb reviews whenever you find yourself wondering why we don't see more arcade beat'em ups being released

:(

It looks like they used screenshots from MAME, too. Pretty lazy reviewing effort.

I hope we do see more arcade ports, Backbone seems to be getting better with every release. I love their easy button configuration options, and the new "quarters" and "survival" mode make these ports way more interesting.

Online play could probably be improved a bit, it sucks that the host suffers no lag while the rest of the players are guaranteed some level of input delay. If they could distribute it among all the players, it would still suck to play, but at least no one would have an advantage.

Well, I haven't braved hard or expert difficulty yet, but I finished the Japanese version on normal difficulty with Marge and didn't lose a single life until I got to the last boss, that bastard Burns. He's annoying

The japanese version is cool. I like being able to extend your health bar and there does seem to be a few more health items. In the last stage, I had doubled my health bar with all the food items I found. Pretty handy for the last set of bosses (the samurai, Smithers and Burns)

EDIT: Now that I'm in beat'em up mode, I'm curious about that Shank 2 that just came out

But it wasn't the deep storytelling that drove me off Citizen Kane, it was the color shortcomings that Wells still hasn't fixed after all these years.

Really, that's not a review, it's filler. It's not that it's negative or that it's unfair, it's purely bad writting. Here, let me sum it up for you:

1) The game has poor hitboxes
2) HURR DURR, THIS GAME FROM 20 YEARS AGO LOOKS LIKE IT WAS MADE 20 YEARS AGO
3) OMG, GIANT MR BURNS? CLEARLY KONAMI IS STUPID

The complaint about the hit boxes is particularly silly I think. It's true, I don't usually find myself hitting an enemy head on. I'm usually slightly above or below them, but that's part of the strategy of these games. You try to hit them before they perfectly line up with you so that they don't get off an attack. It really sounds like he's never played a nineties arcade beat'em up in his entire life

I don't have any trouble hitting enemies. If he can't do that, then he shouldn't be playing video games

Perhaps this will help some of you with the Burns fight, unless you already know. I was playing the japanese version on normal difficulty with Marge. I noticed the stuff at the top of the screen can be destroyed for health items. Pretty helpful, especially when combined with the health items that Smithers drops

I also noticed that it's possible to get Burns caught on the left side of the screen in his last and second to last forms. If you corner him and mash the attack button, you can sometimes get him caught in a sort of infinite combo. He never gets an attack off.

Also, I discovered a hidden health item behind a tree in the graveyard level. I love the little secrets I keep finding in this game. Any other tips you guys have are much appreciated. I really like the japanese version. Being able to extend your health bar is really helpful

Awesome, thanks! :) I hope someone does document all the "hidden food", I might give it a go later. Seems like we find something new every few times we play.

Here's some random stuff I know off the top of my head:

-I think there's one in the beginning of level 1 (really helpful information, I know, LOL)!
-Level 2 you should get food if you jump kick the directions sign at the beginning of the stage.
-Also in Level 2, if you hit the nose of the "rabbit cave" (might not be on the nose, just jump kick around its face and you'll get it), two oranges will appear where its eyes usually are. Jump kick those and they'll fall, then you can eat them.
-Level 3 has a hidden food item if you hit the trees, I think, besides just the pizza (?) that's obscured by the foreground tree.

After that it's kind of a blur. :( I should also mention something that might make the Burns fight (the first two forms) really easy as long as you get the timing down, it's similar to what you found with the corner trap. Basically, be on the top of the screen and match your horizontal position with Burns as he approaches. Hit a "power attack" (attack + jump) at the right time and he'll bounce away. You can repeat this until the first two forms are destroyed, the third one seems to be too fast for it.
