Yep, I do it quite often. Just install the HEN (Homebrew ENabler) and install the PSNlover plugin. It'll fool PSN into thinking you are using the current official firmware, allowing you to do everything a regular PSP can.

It's rare to find a 5.50 in the wild. Just buy a PSP and downgrade it to the firmware you want.

Recent 6.xx CFW can do both PS1 and PSP isos.

What's better for PS1 games on a PSPgo? Virtuous Flame's CFW or TNHEN?

Virtuous Flame, TNHEN is lacking in the popstation dept.
