Thanks for all the suggestions. I will repost when I get a chance to try these. I did try two different tvs with this unit (one a newer hdtv and one a older small tube set). My guess would be the ac adapter is bad since I am using an aftermarket one that has a snes socket too. Next I will check the headphone jack, and finally I will have to try and get some info on replacing capacitors (which I can do) if nothing else works. Thanks a lot!

it's a bad AC adapter. i had one exactly like you described once, they are fucking garbage. i opened it up and it had a bad capacitor in it, thats what caused the buzzing in the sound for me
need console mods or repairs? check my thread here:

Definately try a new ac adapter, those aftermarket all-in-one things are just crap.

Capacitor inside the AC adapter? :shock: I thought all that was inside was a big coil of copper... :roll:

it has that, a diode bridge and an electrolytic capacitor.
