Metal Gear - NES

Post by SpaceBooger »

Metal Gear was one of the first games I ever beat on the NES, but I just read an article at IGN that makes me feel like I was gypped and have to play the MSX verstion

Metal Gear 3: Sustenance has the MSX version of 1 & 2 on the bonus disk. I was just playing them the other night.

I tried to play Metal Gear on NES a couple of times, and I guess I'm just not understanding something. Seems like a great opportunity to ask... because I can't get past level one (are there even levels?) - I can't get far anyways. The dogs in the early screens always get me and all that. What am I missing?

I didn't get it as a kid and consequently gave up on it and went back to RC Pro AM.

The MSX game is quite a bit easier and doesn't have a lot of the earlier stuff. Notably, fewer dogs.

You can avoid them by waiting until they face the other way... its hard to do so I usually run down the screen as fast as I can and hope I make it.
Once inside you will find plenty of rations

Wow I was just looking at MG 2 and the graphics are amazing. I'm assuming the MSX was superior to the NES which is wierd because the MSX version of contra had really crappy animations. I always thought NES > MSX but maybe I was originally right.

Oh ok. I just assumed I was doing something wrong, I was usually trying to run past them and punching the odd one, but it sort of felt wrong. I'll give the MSX version a go anyway, it seems to be considered the superior version?

I'll have to wait to give this a spin, just sold my MGS3: Subsistence because of the price spike, bought it for $10 a few weeks ago, sold it for $40 last night, w00t.
