I hate prerendered backgrounds...
Re: I hate prerendered backgrounds...
In that case, Sierra adventure games should be fine. Just click wherever you want to go, and your character goes there.

Re: I hate prerendered backgrounds...
Pre-rendered backgrounds in games like Baldur's Gate and the old point-and-click games don't bother me. I was initially extremely bothered by Donkey Kong Country, since it hampers gameplay by not having clearly defined edges or platforms. After a while, I got used to it.

Re: I hate prerendered backgrounds...
I can see how colorblindness would make it a pain, but I always liked them. Some prerendered backgrounds have aged really well and others were ugly to start with, but the annoying thing is that you'll see the two in the same game. Star Ocean 2 was a good example. But it sure looks a lot better than polygons!
I just wish they would use some hand-drawn backgrounds instead of CG. Imagine how much prettier Valkyrie Profile could have been (still a gorgeous game, though).

Hmm, yeah I can't think of any examples where the backgrounds were an issue to me to be honest.
Re: I hate prerendered backgrounds...
Prerendered backgrounds can become an issue in certain survival horror titles, as the dark color palette can make things difficult to see. Beyond that, there are some beautifully handled examples, such as Legend of Mana. And then there is atuff like Chrono Cross, which I find jarring due to its brightness. I still greatly respect the game, but I am unable to play it anymore.

And this is where the N64 wins! no pre-rendered BS up in here!

All the prerendered stuff wasn't BS. Legend of Mana was mentioned and that game is gorgeous.

I can definitely understand why they're frustrating, but I am pretty nostalgic about them. I really like the low-res PSX rpg backgrounds in FF and RE games. They represent a specific time period of gaming for me, but I certainly had my fair share of "Where the f--- do I go now?" moments.
I'm playing through Parasite Eve now and some of those chests are near impossible to decipher - and I'm not even colorblind!
