The computer I have in my living room is almost silent. I've had video cards in it that were noticeable, but using integrated graphics (or the passively cooled GT 430 that's in it now), plus SSDs...any of the consoles I have in there are louder.

I had a similar experience with the phat PS3 though - the noise level was enough to be distracting while watching movies (or at least, enough to warrant more volume at times), whereas the Slim makes hardly any noise. Even in my computer room, where the phat resides now, it stands out noise-wise if it's doing much of anything except idling on XMB. Louder than either PC I've got in there.

Well I think I might just return it. Problem is there are no backwards compatible PS3's from them in the area unless I go to Jersey. Plus I went with them for the reason of their warranty. I can always return it. Still this is pretty damn lame. I just want to open it and see how much dust there may be but I'll void the warranty. I am comfortable reballing the solder though if I have to.

how long is under GS warranty for?

also, if you specifically want a BC one, you could ask that they try to order one from another store and exchange it?

So, I returned the 80 and picked up a 60gb. Now everything is as right as rain.

awesome! And if you care about the BC, then you're in luck because the 60 has better compatability with PS2 games than the 80.
