RAD RACER~! and using other 3D glasses

Post by RickyHenry »

So I found an old copy of Rad Racer, and I wanted to test out the 3D mode. I have some 3D glasses (Cyan/Red) that came with a copy of Friday the 13 Part 3. I tested them out AND...no luck...

Has anyone else had luck with 3rd party glasses working with this game?

Before the troubleshooting begins -

YES I hit select and put it in 3D mode :P

It's running on a CRT *tube* TV

It's running on a dreaded FamiCLONE

ANy help would be..well...HELPFUL~!

Thanks!

Did the 3D ever work? I remember having minimal luck with 3D in Rad Racer and World Runner when I was younger. It was kind of there, but it kind of sucked too.

Famiclones generally have colors that are off and your TV might or might not be adjusted too. Maybe you can play with the tint and brightness and things and get it working.

Yeah, even back in the day, the 3D of Rad Racer barely worked. I would always see double images. It requires your TV colors to be accurate, which is very unlikely on a consumer CRT. You'd have to use Avia or Video Essentials with the blinking color bars and a blue filter to accurately adjust your color and tint.

For the NES 3D games, you need to have the red over your right eye which is generally backwards from how ANALglyph 3D is usually done. You're going to see some moderate ghosting, but if you have a good TV and it is set up properly, you should see 3D. Granted, it is not mindblowing 3D and nothing ever seems to come outside of the screen, everything instead seems to go into it. We did an early Game Sack episode about NES vs SMS 3D. Too bad we didn't have the Famicom shutter glasses.

I've heard the Sega Master System 3D glasses & games worked pretty well. Anyone care to comment on that?

The Master System glasses work great. I've got a pair (slightly damaged) and a few games. Very impressive considering how old these things are.

Never had an issue with Rad Racer using red/cyan 3D glasses, but that was so long ago.

Hm. RickyHenry. Sounds an awful lot like HenryGrik, plus you are here to gain new knowledge. I'm onto you "Ricky", and trust me we'll be watching to see if you start grabbing things.

The SMS glasses work pretty well. Color is not an issue but you will still see some ghosting. A few games, most notably Blade Eagle 3D are horrible examples of 3D and should be avoided. Or if you play with one eye closed it is OK.

Sorry to disappoint. :) But! In an effort to prove I'm not this Grik guy, I am playing a chiptunes set at the Louisville Arcade Expo next month with Mega Ran and pals. rickyhenry.com/8bit.html
