Let's talk PS1/PS2 fight pads...

Post by noiseredux »

so I have the Chun-Li pad for PS2, which is pretty comfortable and I like it a lot. Expect for one thing...

^note the location of START and SELECT.

I keep fucking hitting them during Soul Calibur 2, which sucks because I'm inadvertently resetting the game!!!

With that in mind, I can't even think of any other quality PS1/2 fight pads. What others are out there that anyone could recommend?

Yeah. I love those 15th Anniversary fightpads! I have Ken and Akuma on the PS2. And also the Akuma one for the oXbox.

Even though I have the Ryu Street Fighter IV fightpad for my 360 and it works ok, I actually prefer to use these PS2 fightpads instead, via my PS2-to-360 adapter. It's more comfortable. The SFIV pads seemed a little bulky.

And yeah, occasionally I do hit the start or select button by accident. But not too often

I'm the opposite... I actually prefer the SF4 fightpad for PS3. I love the size of it. It just fits my hands a lot better than the PS2 pad.

I did not, I bowed out at $50 - it went over $100:

HORI made a couple pads as well that have been well received on shoryuken, but i've not personally used them:

$100 for a Darkstalkers box is a lot. :|

I don't like the look of that Hori.

The first HORI looks like it would have the feel / layout of a SNES pad, might be "ok".

The second appears to be getting too fancy and clunky, imo.

The ASCII is legit, same shell / design of the DC ASCII, great pad. A bit thicker than the SAT pad, a bit thinner than the PS2 fightpad you have. Great pad.

I like those Capcom 15th Anniversary fightpads...
...BUT, without fail, the D-pad ALWAYS starts sticking in one direction or another. I think the rubber pusher (whatever's under the directional pad) wears out really fast. I've gone through 3 of them, and while 2 still work, it's still frustrating when used for fighters. It might stick for only a half second, but it really throws off my rhythm and makes super combos extremely difficult.

I just ordered one of these:

I have a few extra Saturn pads, so it's the perfect solution for me. Can't wait to try it out.

I just use a saturn to ps2 adapter to use a saturn pad works flawless.
