If you were rich would you fund a video game sequel?

If you were rich would you fund a video game sequel?

Post by ZeroAX »

The idea for this thread came to me cause Notch, the minecraft guy wants to fund the creation of Psychonauts 2

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012- ... chonauts-2

Ok, I imagine EVERYONE here would want to make his own game, BUT what about only funding a game? I mean, no you giving input or directing the thing. Just funding.

So, if you were rich, would you fund the development of a favorite franchise's sequel? If yes, which?

(yeah I know, kind of a childish fantasy, but hey, we are all children inside, right? :) )

Personally if I was rich I'd fund only small budget games, so either handhelds or Steam/PSN/XBLA games.

That list would include:

Megaman Legends 3
The Longest Journey 3 (since they will make it as episodic adventure games)
HD remakes for the Sonic Mega Drive games.

Love the idea of Skies of Arcadia 2 :D. Never played Earthbound (or any mother game) so I don't know about that.

Um....yeah a Final Fantasy VI remake would be great, but a sequel? The story was pretty much over, and can the game really work without Kefka around?

Maybe a prequel that shows how Kefka becomes all fucked up. Or heck a game that takes us through the life of Kefka, even through the parts of FF6 :D

Oh hell yes I would. Off the top of my head...

I'd be on board with your suggestion of classic Sonic remakes. On top of the genesis games though, I'd want to do remakes of the master system/game gear games.

I'd also, bear with me on this, make a sequel to Sonic R. Sounds crazy, I know, but I think the power of modern systems (and the hedgehog engine, maybe) would allow for an awesome game. I realize I'm one of maybe 12 fans of that game, but when I picture a sequel in my head it looks amazing.

I'd also be throwing money at Konami and demanding another new game in the Rocket Knight Adventures series, with sprites, not polygons! Don't get me wrong, I liked the recent sequel a lot, but full 2d would have been better.

Finally, just to satisfy my own immense nerdiness, I'd fund a new Ranma 1/2 fighting game with the Marvel Vs. Capcom style. I have to admit though, that I'd want some input on that. I have some ideas you see...

There are others I've thought about before (yeah I've had this fantasy a few times) but they're escaping me just now. I'll get back to it if I remember.

Phantasy Star V, Streets of Rage 4, Kid Icarus 2, and I'd reassemble Compile and fund some new shooters.

Ah, yes, I can't believe I forgot those! And Golden Axe 4 while we're at it! And Alien Storm!

And you know what, I'll be the first one to say it, Shenmue 3.

Look 2 posts above yours :P.

And Streets of Rage 4? I don't know....I mean, the 3rd one wasn't good imo, and them trying to do it in 3D or HD visuals won't do that 80s groove the games had any justice.

But if they DO release a sequel, it BETTER have music by the same guy 8)
