no it isn't backwards compatible and I don't personally know of any add on but I know there are several systems such as the one from yobo that you can find really easily on ebay that have both systems combined and most are relatively cheap compared to buying the original consoles. here on racketboy there was an article on a dual game console http://www.racketboy.com/retro/nintendo ... ctwin.html but if you're not satisfied with the yobo one there are others or you might just have to go with emulation

get the svideo cable for best snes picture quality. there is SCART for euro sets, but we dont have those here in the states. I use svideo and there is a HUGE difference, especially with small text. As for playing NES games, there is a converter called the Super 8 or Tristar http://www.gamersgraveyard.com/reposito ... uper8.html . I dont know if you can still get one but look around for one on ebay! best of luck.

I highly recommend one of the Retro Duos...

I own both an original SNES and NES, but this thing is just too convenient.

Cheers, its all gettin to me abit. Slightly confused about more things now.

If you don't mind helping me:
What do i need if i want to play any NES or SNES game(US/Japan)?
I'll most likely aquire a NES and SNES from the UK (where i am).

and just looking at your signature im curious what you mean by 50/60Hz Switch, and emu adapter for nes.

Cheers mate.

PAL system generally run on 60hz and US and JP on 60hz. So you have to install a switch to change from 50 to 60hz in order to play all regions on one console.

Japanese and US games will run on the same system, but the Japanese carts have 60 pins and US games have 72 pins. You can use a conveter like the one linked in fox099's post. Or you can get a early copy of the US version of Gyromite(it's consideralbly more bottom heavy than the one without it) and pull apart the cart and use the convertor inside. Then you can play Japanese game on a US console. Not really sure about the PAL systems and games.

Anyone from the UK care to comment?

NES on the SNES... No (like everyone said) but peripheral-wise, you can use the NES RF switch (most RF switches are fully interchangeable) and on the JP SNES, you can use the JP NES AC adapter.

There is an add-on made for SNES that can play NES games. For the life of me, I can't remember the name of it. If and/or when I find it, I'll post a link. If I remember correctly, it's pretty rare and, therefore, expensive.

I considered getting it before, but it was cheaper to buy a Dreamcast and use NesterDC.

Oops! I didn't see that fox099 had already mentioned the Super Eight. My bad.
