Craigslist, Goodwill, other thrifts, swap meets, yard sales... It also helps to have a smart phone and be willing to buy stuff you don't personally want. If I find a good deal on something that I can't use, I know there'll be someone out there that will want it and I can then trade or sell it and get what I want. This way I'm not spending a ton on my "hobby." Not just games, but I'll pick up electronics and collectibles too, especially b/c I'll see people posting on CL that want to trade a game lot for ... tools, electronics, collectibles, camera equipment, you name it. And besides, I know if nothing else I can sell it on Amazon. Also, this is how you can snag a good deal on Ebay: look through the lots for stuff you want and don't worry if it's a ton of other stuff you don't want. That all goes in the trade pile.

Also, I'd suggest joining Gametz. Makes it super easy to get rid of games (and music, and dvd, and other stuff if you go on their forums) you don't want and trade for things you do want. I've found their system to be the easiest way of finding other people who want the stuff you don't and have the stuff you do. It takes some work to get trades going, but it's worthwhile.

I might check out the Gametz thing. I've wondered about RFgen because you can easily check people's wishlist and see who has what for sale/trade. But I'm not exactly an active member over there other than keeping up with my collection, so I don't want to just randomly message people and be like "Yo I got whatchu need." lol

Thank you for all the suggestions! Gametz sounds really interesting.

I have been on GameTZ for 5 years now and it is a great place to make trades at. the rating system keeps thing in check very well. Just expect to be sending first every time untill you get some trades under your belt.

I signed up there two days ago and honestly it just feels like a cult full of paranoid people. And as hilarious as that sounds, I'm not even joking.

I think I had 4 trades on GTZ and got screwed in two of them. The fucked up thing is that I got a "warning" or whatever on one of them despite me being the one that got scammed. I abandoned that shit hole after that. This was 8 years ago.

Yeah I definitely prefer just the overall atmosphere and people here at Racketboy. It feels much more laid back here. And it's funny because when I first checked out gametz and looked at several different people's profile or whatever, every single one of them had "people who lie, stealers, scammers, etc" in their "dislikes", I mean, that's understandable, but they're just all so damn paranoid. haha

I typically deal on forums but I also watch ebay like a hawk.

If you can find an item ending mid day on a weekday you can get pretty decent deals still.

I'm not on GTZ to make friends, only make trades. I look over the person's feedback, what they have and what they want, and go from there. When I started out, I only traded w/ people who had a number of gold stars, lessening the likelihood of getting scammed or getting something not in the condition stated. Made a few mistakes to start out, but after getting a feel for how the site worked, I ended up getting a lot of great trades there. Definitely better than a site like Goozex, and as much as I love Racketboy, I think finding trades on here is pretty difficult if not impossible. The other nice thing about GTZ is that I can use my want and have lists as an easy list to show people on other sites as well.

I've done lots of trades on Racketboy, it's definitely not impossible, it may be a matter of chance, but not impossible. Yeah, GTZ makes it very easy to check people's lists, and it even automatically finds you matches, that's convenient and great, and I'm not there to make friends either, but trades definitely go a lot smoother when people aren't so uptight.

I've actually made a couple of deals over there last night/this morning, and so far so good. But I still prefer Racketboy's overall atmosphere. Being new there has just made me feel like I'm constantly being accused of being a scammer, I've gotten about 4 PMs reiterating the fact that I basically have no rights, I have to send first, blah de blah. Luckily the people I have dealt with actually remember what it was like to be new and are giving me the benefit of the doubt.
