That's funny. You're probably the only person in the world to ever describe me as conservative. Being so fiercely proud of your position is admirable but the way you go about it makes it very difficult to discuss subjects like this with you.

So Syria...holy crap. I was really bummed out this weekend when Russia and China vetoed the UN Resolution to condemn the attacks on the civilian populace (again) but I definitely was not surprised.

What did surprise me was how Assad's troops cranked up the volume on Homs like minutes after the resolution tanked. I was listening to the world service last night. There was an interview with a Syrian living in Homs who was not a fighter - just some dude cowering in his house. You could hear the non-stop rocket barrage and at one point the guy's voice cuts out in the middle of this huge explosion. The reporter cut the feed and seemed to have this 'oh shit, I just listened to someone die' moment. I had that moment, too. Fortunately, when the reporter called another person in Homs, that person just happened to be sitting next to the original interviewee who was alive and well, though scared shitless.

Then it hit me how much worse this is than Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, or even Libya. This is fucking genocide. I look at this and wonder if this will be one of those rare moments when the world comes together or will developed world turn its head and just stand by?

The US probably is afraid of starting another war alone, specially when they have sift their focus towards Asia, and China and Russia just love selling weapons to them, and don't like any revolution that is successful.

The US has two problems right now: We are gearing up for a Presidential election so foreign affairs are on the back burner for 90% of the country. As for starting another foreign war...we just don't have the money for it. A decade running the show in Iraq and Afghanistan killed us financially.
