I still stick to my opinion that limitation drove innovation back then, releasing spectacular games, games when released we had our jaws drop and mesmerized by their goodness compared to what was available back then. I just don't feel we get this feeling much more in this era. But I will agree that limitation is not the ONLY reason behind great retro games.
@JT you make great points and I hear you well. I get what you are saying, but wouldn't you say Halo is a game that is about gameplay since the main reason its famous is the online multiplayer which has NO story in it. I played halo 2+3 , campaign and multiplayer, I still don't know what is the story exactly but I came back for the gameplay.
I have no idea what is so exciting about Minecraft, i never tried it, but although I believe Plants vs Zombies is one of the best games in the last decade, I don't see myself going back playing through it again. I understand your argument about Street Fighter 4, but I think people will keep going back to street fighter 2 much more than 4 which I think will be forgotten in few years.
Whoever posted the Bandicoot article, is it 13 pages? damn thats like a small book
Limitation is the secret of interest in retro games
