So I picked the Greatest Hits version of this game up a few weeks ago and I'm finally getting around to playing it... Works fine on my PS3, except every time I fire a gun it makes a loud white noise buzz that doesn't go away until I transition to the next area. Anyone else played this game on their PS3s? Is there a fix for this? I'm going to go PS2 hunting tomorrow anyways, so maybe I'll just have to play it on that. Any other game, I might even just deal with it, but I was getting really into the atmosphere and the sound design is stellar in this game.
Here's a video, this is exactly what's happening to me.
Ongoing list of PS1 games with emulation problems:
-Final Fantasy 8: some graphical errors during the transition effects. This is really minor.
-Final Fantasy 5 (Final Fantasy Anthology, black label only): Sometimes completely crashes when you attempt to save your game. The greatest hits version doesn't have this problem.
-Ridge Racer Type 4: Analog control does not work(?)
-Side By Side Special: Analog control does not work(?)
-Silent Hill: Loud white noise when pistol is used
-Tomb Raider: Doesn't start up at all
-V-Rally 2: Freezes on startup

I'm aware of this glitch yet I don't think it's ever been addressed.

Does anyone know of a list of other PS1 games that have emulation problems on the PS3? I'd like to avoid those in the future.
-The Final Fantasy 5 disc in Final Fantasy Anthology (black label only) will sometimes completely crash when you attempt to save your game. It's related to the garbled screen glitch you'd sometimes get at the save screen on the ps2. The greatest hits version doesn't have this problem.

That's just the games I actually own that I've tested. Most games work fine, but the amount of games that do have errors is pretty significant imo. Much bigger than the amount of ps1 games with errors on the ps2.
Personally I keep my ps1 around for this reason. On the flipside, I don't think I've ever personally ran into problems playing ps2 games on my 60gb ps3.
Re: Original Silent Hill on PS3 - sound glitches
As far as I can tell there's no solution to the Silent Hill issue (or any of these) so I'm re-purposing this thread as a list of PS1 games with emulation problems. If anyone has run into issues with PS2 games, I guess I can throw those up as well.

You'll need folks to specify whether they're using a 60gb or 80gb model for ps2.sabrage wrote:As far as I can tell there's no solution to the Silent Hill issue (or any of these) so I'm re-purposing this thread as a list of PS1 games with emulation problems. There's really no solution as far as I know. I don't think they'll be fixed through updates either.
I still use my PS1 all the time since it's my go-to party console (Bushido Blade!!!)
I've noticed colors tend to be pretty gaudy especially in 2D games. Rayman and Final Fantasy IV look way better on PS1. As far as I know fat PS2s will look the same while slims and PS3s will have some problems.

Sony hasn't released backwards compatibility updates for YEARS, so yeah I doubt it.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:There's really no solution as far as I know. I don't think they'll be fixed through updates either.

Worth noting that ps3 doesn't output 240p for ps1 games.
Re: PS1 games with issues on the PS3
Wikipedia has a list of games as well, but annoyingly enough it combines both PS1 and PS2 games with no distinction between the two and the original Silent Hill isn't on it, so it's safe to say it's not complete.
I don't really know anything about PS2 backwards compatibility, besides that Sony stupidly removed it.

Well the gist of it is that the 60gb model (and I think the 20gb one) actually has the ps2's Emotion Engine chip and GPU in it. It's the more reliable model.sabrage wrote:Wikipedia has a list of games as well, but annoyingly enough it combines both PS1 and PS2 games with no distinction between the two and the original Silent Hill isn't on it, so it's safe to say it's not complete.

The 80gb one removes the EE chip, emulating it instead, but keeps the ps2's GPU. This one has more problems.

Re: PS1 games with issues on the PS3
I have issues with racing games using analog control.
-Ridge Racer Type 4
-Side By Side Special
No matter what I try the game in the ps3 will never be with analog steering
And the Negcon works on the ps3 dashboard, but not with the games.
