Do I have a Problem?
Hey there guys, I have a few questions.
Do any of you often feel that you are more into collecting games than actually playing them? Do you ever feel like no matter how many games you acquire, you aren't satisfied with the ones you have? I feel this way a lot, for example; I often go online to look for new games that I would like get, instead of spending time playing the games that I already have.
Of course, I collect games to play them, but sometimes I am more motivated to collect instead of play.
Is this a bad habit?

Re: Do I have a Problem?
I certainly spend more time collecting, researching, and writing about games than I actually spend playing. And since I mainly play RPGs, I definitely accumulate games at a much faster rate than I can finish them, as each game is at least a 2-3 week investment.
Here's the way I see it though... Every year I am less and less interested in the new games that are being released. Eventually I think I'll hit a point where I simply don't by any new games (perhaps once everything goes digital) and then I'll be able to sit back and play through my entire backlog. Of course I could be 40 by the time this all happens.

Yep.
Having stuff is cool and obviously I like it. I'm tempted to buy all the Ace Combat games at once because I want all of them, but it's a waste of time to price out stuff you're not buying and a waste of money to buy stuff you're not playing. I think all retro gamers deal with it, so you're not a horrible person or anything. Just remember to be moderate and do other work/hobbies too.

I'd only say it's a bad habit if you aren't able to pay your bills, it interferes in your social life and work, or your collection takes up too much space in your home. Otherwise, do what makes you happy.

Yes it is a problem, but no your not alone. My fiancee and I always laugh at when she used to get a lil silly over me owning like 7 xbox360 games. Then out of nowhere I got back into collecting the oldies again and things accumulated. Before she knew it the whole house looked like an episode of hoarders Videogame edition.
All in all I kinda see where your coming from but so many of us are guilty of the same feeling it just comes with the hobby so we enjoy and embrace all that comes from it as a learning experience

If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

I am that way as well. But I will just echo others, it isnt a problem if you can afford it and it isnt affecting your life in an adverse way. At the worst, you can always resell them.
It is similar to anything someone collects, be it cards, comics, coins, or stamps etc...
At least with games I can play them and collect and display them. Double win for me.

Ha I always thought I was alone in feeling like this. It's good to know I'm not. Read some Fahrenheit 451 and then tell me if you think your video game collecting is still a problem.

It's bad when you resort to your CC and then you don't have the money to pay it off.
