What are some of your first choices when shopping around for games? Is there some magical place that exists out there where great deals can be found?

If you want a good deal, you have to search long and hard for them in the wild. These could be at swap meets, garage sales, charity stores etc.
It can be a very tiring exercise though, but fun.

This is the truth, if you want once in a life time deals, you have to look locally. Goodwill is my store of choice, between the 6-7 I make my rounds to I have made some pretty excellent finds. Craigslist is good as well as long as you get to the ads first. Thats a big problem with getting deals online, everyone has a computer and access to the same ebay listings you do, and everyone online these days knows games are worth something.

If you just want solid deals on great games then the B/S/T section here is great! I have made many trades and purchases here and its nice to do deals with fellow gamers that understand our love for retro games, and who wont price gouge you.

Half.com is low-profile, so there can be some great deals there from time to time. Amazon is the way to go if you want to buy something new. Ebay's just there these days, their prices aren't as good as they used to be. Racketboy's B/S/T board has good stuff, but it's more of a hassle than simply clicking "check out" on Amazon. Thrift stores typically have the best prices, but finding what you want is a rare thing. Retail stores are only worth it if what you want recently came out, and the prices are no better online yet, or if the store is having some kind of sale. Craigslist can be great, but beware of shady people, or people who suddenly stop responding for no apparent reason.

I almost never shop auction postings on ebay. But refreshing the BINs can often snag you a good deal if you are quick enough

That's what I do on the rare occasion I buy something on Ebay. The auctions are garbage these days.

It seems like the good prices on amazon and half.com (for used games) are slowly disappearing, and the ones that are left are closer to ebay prices. There are still cheaper deals to be found on those sites in some cases, but most of the time I'm better off just using ebay (as much as I'd rather not). I don't have a problem with ebay, but sometimes the prices are more than I want to pay and I just end up not getting whatever it is, because it's not available anywhere else at a cheaper price. Thrift stores are awesome, if your area has good ones to choose from. Unfortunately, not much pops up in my area and when something good does come up, the price is usually not so good. So I usually end up having to shop online anyway. Personally I'm not so worried about "convenience", I don't mind hunting around town for stuff, yes it's costly having to keep gas in your vehicle, but it's still fun to hunt for stuff, if you like that kind of thing. Also, yard sales are really awesome, but again, unfortunately in my area, there usually isn't much to choose from. I really love checking out the B/S/T threads here on Racketboy but of course you're not always going to find what you're looking for. Prices are usually pretty decent but still sometimes more than I'd rather pay. I'm a cheapo, with not a whole lot of money so my picks are always very limited anyway.
