Sure give it a shot, can't hurt.

But I do believe you'll find that the laser is gone.Replacement is easy enough. All you do is open the console, remove the laser which is only 2 cables and then put in the new one and reassemble.

My machine started screwing up on the FMV's first too, so that's what makes me think the new laser is the answer.
