This video is the best I could find on how to do it. I've done it myself before as well. You can do this with pretty much any console that has an optical drive. There used to be tons of info on how to do this, but a lot of the old sites have either gone down or changed URLs, making it harder to find them on Google. IIRC, adjusting the pot just changes the intensity of the laser so it can focus better. If you do it too much though, it won't be able to read anything. It's very sensitive so just turn it a little bit at a time until you find the sweet spot. Also be patient, although it shouldn't take you more than half an hour to do if you've ever done this sort of thing before.
