Microsoft to buy Sega...Maybe?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Sounds like a mistake to me, look what happened to Rare when they went second party with Microsoft. Where they were once one of the most respected developers of the 32/64 era, they are now an also-ran. Sega have established themselves as a strong 3rd party developer, and I think it would be better for them to work up from there and see what happens than to commit themselves totally to Microsoft. There's still hope for a Dreamcast 2 yet!!! :P

Hmmm. "Strong 3rd party". I haven't been seeing too much strength of late.

DC2. Well the only way that is gonna happen is with lots of money, Microsoft has lots of money. ( although I don't see them having a Sega branded console instead of a Microsoft one)They could always launch thier console line under the Sega name and keep the Microsoft name as purely PC.

Anyhow, as far as VC, microsoft does have xbl to distribute Sega's back catalogue of games. But playing Mega-drive games with that horrible 360 D-pad does not get me all that excited.

Thought since I started this thread I should throw in an opinion.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Or maybe do what Sega did with some of their older consoles: Sell the next Microsoft console with Microsoft badging, and then also sell it in a similar looking system with Sega badging, with identical hardware inside. I think they could make a ton of money like that.

Although I have been a fan of Sega's third party stuff, I would like the confidence that buying one console would allow me to play all the Sega titles, and not just JSRF on one system, SA2B on another, and VF4 on a third.

That actually doesn't sound too bad of an idea as I have heard that the recent Sega games haven't been too great. With Microsoft behind them, they could possibly improve. It will suck for those who are against Microsoft and the Xbox of course.

The problem is that Microsoft will have them milking only the most profitable franchises and hamstring other efforts. Look at how many games Bungie made when owned by Microsoft... Halo, Halo 2, and Halo 3. Now that they're independent they're doing Halo Wars, which isn't really much of a branching out, but I bet they do have internal teams working on new stuff now that Microsoft isn't guiding their development.

Why do people type SEGA like Sega...anyway....I still don't think it will benefit any of us in any real good way. Like maru said, they're gonna get stuck on one maybe two projects. And i can tell you what one of those products will be, another 3D Sonic. I still don't know why SEGA continues to attempt it because so far they have just failed bringing Sonic into the 3D realm. But otherwise, all the lost franchises that some of you hope will be brought back if Microsoft does buy them, won't get brought back. The truth is Microsoft doesn't care about you, me or any fans they may have; they care about money.
Somebody sell me a model 1 modchip for Saturn. Please.

A little off topic, but that'd be awesome if Bungie made a new Myth game for the PC or even a console.

Because all caps is stupid. It's not an acronym, it's a made up word blended from two other words. I realize all the official company stuff has it in caps, but lots of companies do that and sensible people don't abide by it. 2K always wrote Bioshock in all caps, but you never see it written that way by anyone who doesn't work for 2K. Sorry to sound like a dick, but caps drive me crazy! It's a pet peeve.

Anyway, I don't really see this deal happening. It's like the rumor that MS was going to buy Nintendo last generation.
