You can't go wrong with the original NBA Live '95, but '96 was the pinnacle of the engine imo. That game also had Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley in it - you just had to go to create-a-player and type in their name and it pre-filled everything. That wasn't in any of the other Live games (also could pull in the rookies like Stackhouse with this).mas wrote:Besides nba jam series what are really good basketball games are for genesis. I know about nba live but which year? And what about the celts vs lakers or bulls vs blazers series? Are those good games.
Coach K was built with the same engine as Live '96 (both released in 1995) and sadly was the only installment in the series (and only on the Genesis). I played that game more than any other hoops game on the Genesis. All-time fave.
The Lakers vs. Celtics, Bulls vs. Lakers, and Bull vs. Blazers (and then NBA Showdown '94) games were okay for the time period but do not hold up well. The cases look really cool but don't be fooled
Prior to NBA Live '95, Tecmo Super NBA Basketball on the SNES was the best 16-bit hoops game. The SNES version was slightly better than the Genesis offering (and had a better roster also).
