You can't go wrong with the original NBA Live '95, but '96 was the pinnacle of the engine imo. That game also had Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley in it - you just had to go to create-a-player and type in their name and it pre-filled everything. That wasn't in any of the other Live games (also could pull in the rookies like Stackhouse with this).

Coach K was built with the same engine as Live '96 (both released in 1995) and sadly was the only installment in the series (and only on the Genesis). I played that game more than any other hoops game on the Genesis. All-time fave.

The Lakers vs. Celtics, Bulls vs. Lakers, and Bull vs. Blazers (and then NBA Showdown '94) games were okay for the time period but do not hold up well. The cases look really cool but don't be fooled ;)

Prior to NBA Live '95, Tecmo Super NBA Basketball on the SNES was the best 16-bit hoops game. The SNES version was slightly better than the Genesis offering (and had a better roster also).

lol thanks :) I just got sports talk baseball and love it. The snes is a great system no doubt but the sports games on genesis :D who knew that I would rather play nfl 94 than madden 12 or any other snes sports game well except tecmo super bowl for the snes. I think that version is a little better but other than that I cant think of any other sports game that is better on the snes to genesis.

Super Tecmo NBA Basketball was better on the SNES, so it sounds like your Tecmo Super Bowl II example is spot on.

I think you'll find most of the EA games (that they did decide to release on the SNES - they skipped out on Triple Play and some others) are graphically superior on the SNES (NBA Live '95 for example is much more vibrant on the SNES), but that's where the edges stop.

I JUST PICKED UP MUTANT LEAGUE HOCKEY OMG!!!! I can't wait to play it. I had it as a kid and I tested it out and it still holds up well. I love the 8 and 16 bit and I love my genny even more. Snes and nes is getting boxed up for a while.Time for sega and mutant league hockey

I hadn't even heard of Mutant Hockey League until this thread and then fvgazi, Key-Glyph, and Nemoide were raving about it. It's that good, huh? Better than NHL 94?

No, it's certainly not better than NHL '94.

The game is built on the NHL(PA) '93 engine. It's a fun offshoot from the standard hockey faire. It has held up considerably better than Mutant League Football (as have all the old EA hockey games).
