You should consider getting a free wordpress blog. I'd read it.
Thanks! I might do that at some point; I have been considering a gaming blog for some time now.

Speaking of niche titles, a local game store has a copy of SNES Packy & Marlon for sale right now, and I may try to pick it up this afternoon if I can get it at or below market price. (I also have an ironic love for the SNES "let's see if video games can make children healthier" games - Captain Novolin, Packy & Marlon, Rex Ronan: Experimental Surgeon, and Bronkie the Bronchiasaurus - and I am trying to collect all of them too. Also, there is significant overlap here with my terrible games collection.) Wish me luck!

I basically agree. Bad games are fun to play as long as the controls aren't completely mutilated (NES Dragon's Lair, for example). Stuff like Bad Dudes, Beyond the Beyond, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Secret of the Stars and many others are endlessly entertaining.

I'm not sure if "ironic" reviews of these games would best, as that type of thing seems disingenuous to me. Honest reviews that deeply analyze (and even celebrate) bad games are ideal, I think the HG101 kusoge section covers that pretty well.

I agree. There's merit to be found in any game really. And most of us have some "bad" games we love because of nostalgia or whatever. I've said it before I'm sure, but when it comes to any medium really (games, movies, music, etc) I'm just as interested in really "bad" ones as really "good" ones. I think anything that hits an extreme one way or the other is far more interesting than something middle-of-the-road. Or to be more exact, I think a "terrible" game is just as interesting as an "excellent" game -- I'd rather play a "terrible" game than a "good" one. Y'know?

I could not have said it better myself. A "terrible" game is just as interesting as an "excellent" one...although, I will likely spend more time playing and enjoyng the excellent game and more time analyzing the terrible one. In my opinion, it is hard to enjoy a terrible game the same way you enjoy a terrible movie. A horribly dated "period piece" on the other hand... <casts sidelong glance at Journey Escape, Bad Dudes, and Space Jam>

In any event, I picked up Packy & Marlon for $17 (i.e., market price). I can't wait to take it home, try it out, and add it to the collection!

Just got Shantae for $140

I know it's not THE BEST deal out there, but I've been auction hunting one down for over 2 months now. The only ones I have seen 'move' were an auction and a BIT that went for $167 each and another auction that went up to $175.

Now I have to receive it to see if it was 30 dollars cheaper for a reason. More on that later.

Went to City Union thrift formally Second Chance Thrift today. They have been closed a couple months and today was the grand opening.
In the cd and dvd sections I got all CIB
Metal Gear Solid black label $1
Die hard trilogy gh $1
Card games (ps1) $1

Naruto Clash III Wii $3
Castlevania curse of darkness $3
NFL Blitz 2003 $3

Then looking in the electronics department I saw 3 fat ps2s (one had a network adapter) passed as I never will actually soft a ps2 (and I don't need more projects I never do). But I did pick up a "hip gear" controller with screen for $3. I thought it was a crappy clone at first then the ps2 controller plug peaked my interest. I was going to pass it up as the screen on it is tiny. But then I thought you know CRTgamer would have bought this just to show. I better buy it just so he knows about it.

Wow this still needs an ac adapter to play. Not helping the portability of this thing Had a 9v adapter around so it does work. But not exactly the best portable game option. One of those screens that goes on the system is a much better option.

actually, that's sort of a big part of Yard Sale Gaming. I like to cover budget games, etc... that's why I started with Ack's essay No Bad Games. :D
I enjoyed the essay as it's a refreshing take on things. Very cool to hear more is coming like that from YSG.

Won this auction last night for $15.50. Complete blue label Slap Shot auctions that are not BINs are pretty few and far between. The blue label is the US release and is considerably rare. You'll more commonly find the brown label. The cart and instructions look mint and the cover looked good too. The case was a little banged up, but I'll just replace it with one I have for another Sega Master System game.

yeah I remember reading about this thing is PSM way back, but never saw one in real life. That's awesome. (How much was the PS2 with Network Adapter?)
