I am not far enough to say for sure. I am literally only a few chapters in.
My bad, the way I worded that wasn't very good. Is it a separate story mode for each character, like they did before, or a central story mode? Since you're saying you're only a few chapters in, it makes me think there's a central story playing out, instead of individual character endings?

So far it is a central story.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Character spoilers
1 central (short) story mode
No Rock, Yun-seong or Hwang, Talim, Seong Mi-na
No Zasalamel/scythe
No Setsuka, although Alpha-Patroklos uses her style with a scabbard instead of an umbrella.
Pyrrha-Omega's moveset is closer to Sophitia's
Kilik uses random male movesets
Elysium (possible angel form of Sophitia) uses random female movesets
Edgemaster and Algol return.

What's the good word on this game? Should I keep it? Return my copy? Wait to resell collector's edition in hopes that I can price gouge? What? :P

I like it a lot. I think the cast and character creator in SCIV was better but SCV is a better game, overall. It feels so much like Soul Calibur II.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

8wayrun.com has a review up (http://8wayrun.com/threads/hate-speech- ... iew.10153/) that actually has a pretty good way to look at the game - to look at it as being a social game. Small amount of single-player features (with one of those features, Quick Battle, actually trying to emulate fighting online), as well as the focus on making this one of the first really playable online fighters, speaks to that.

I'm disappointed that there isn't nearly as much to do offline as SC3, but I think it's good that they decided to put focus on where it really needed to go.

I respectfully disagree..

I'm sick and tired of all of these modern-gen games practically forcing the player to go online and play for the bulk of the game's enjoyment to be had.. I'll play online now and then, and yeah, I have fun with it occasionally. But 80% of the time, I come home and I just want to relax and play by myself without any human interaction whatsoever and get lost in a fun game.. Companies nowadays, I feel, are abandoning the single-player experience altogether and it's really killing my enjoyment of videogames. I don't buy videogames with the #1 intent and priority based upon multiplayer.. There are half-a-million different FPS games out there for that crowd.. Fighting games have definitely always been about multiplayer, I get that - but they're also home to awesome single player modes, (see: Soul Calibur III.)

SCV reminds me of King of Fighter XII, (w/out the shoddy netcode.) There's just a joke of a single-player experience, (Story mode takes 3-4 hours, tops!) and all thats left for the single-player to do is either play Offline mode and earn "license titles" ala Street Fighter, achievements, or suck it up and go online..

Personally - I feel jipped.

Street Fighter is my #1 favorite fighting franchise of all time, closely followed by the Soul Calibur/Blade games.. I shelled out $85 bucks for this game because I needed it day one, with the collector's edition. After roughly a night and a half of playing it non-stop - I'm already contemplating moving on from it because there's no Souls mode and it's replacement, a Story mode centering on only 3 playable characters, only lasts about 3 hours, and there's no Arcade mode to soldier through to earn character-specific endings.

It's definitely not a bad game. The graphics are improved, the gameplay is fluid, and the movesets are both different and familiar at the same time! There are still balancing issues with characters, but it's no different than any other entry in the series.

Bottomline - If you're a huge fan of the Soul Calibur series, you're going to feel ultimately underwhelmed with this game! Buy it only if you must go online and play the newest Soul Calibur entry with others online. However, if you're anything like me, and you just want to sit down with a beer and play single-player for awhile, save your money. The price of admission here is 75% invested into online features, and a paltry 25% into Story and single-player experience.

Like he said, I understand that fighters are primarily about multiplayer, but I don't always want to increase my skill and constantly pit myself against other people. Sometimes I just want to beat on the computer for a while. I always love to tackle the arcade mode in fighters just to play each character and see their endings, and in the games that have it, enjoy the little cutscenes that play before specific fights. Soul Calibur used to have these remember? They were called Destined Battles.

Thanks for the overview Rurouni. I remember being disappointed with single player stuff in SCIV. If SCV has less, I think I might wait until the game drops in price a bit before I pick it up. I'm going to have to look into it more.

I'm sure there's going to be some responses about how nothing is more important in a fighter than balance and everything else is unnecessary nonsense, but perfect balance won't hold my interest if there isn't enough stuff to do in the game.

So does anyone else think Natsu and Pyrrha(any version) is cheap? I played Devil Jin as well but he doesn't irritate nearly as much as the former... They remind me of Amy LOL!!!
