Well it was a cool concept. And tag teaming with shadow was a cool idea. It just wasn't very fun to actually play...

And you do fight him earlier as shadow. But only once right before.

They really haven't done it right since doomsday in S&K.
I agree 100%. The final bosses of Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Generation were just horrid, abominations. A retarded monkey could have designed better bosses than those. I think Sonic Generations was great overall, but the last two bosses just sucked. That Egg Dragoon or whatever it was called was very poorly designed and the last fight was just a complete, confusing mess

True.

Also I think the Death Egg boss battle was way more badass than the doomsday zone, though that was cool too. And it was also badass that getting all chaos emeralds unlocked the final FINAL battle :D

Yeah, you're right. The pre-Doomsday boss fight with Robotnick was great too.

I was dissapointed that getting all Chaos emeralds in Sonic Generations was mandatory. It's better when the player has to go out of their way to get them and gets something great in return(like Doomsday Zone in S3 & Knuckles)

I feel like the concept of reward is lost on modern games. A lot of games have optional, harder challenges for players, but reward you with nothing of value. I remember when I got all the Riddler trophies in Batman: Arkham City, which took FOREVER. You unlock the final confrontation with Ridder, but it's very anti-climactic and not nearly worth the amount of time and effort it takes to unlock.

Yeah, I think trophies/achievements are a big part of the problem. Those things have pretty much replaced REAL rewards in modern games.

"I just fought through thirty levels of hell in the super, secret, hidden dungeon where I had to beat a beefed up version of every boss in the game with half health and no checkpoints. Jesus Christ, that was hard. What's my reward?"

And what used to be rewards (unlockable costumes, secret/new levels, unique items) has become DLC. And the sad thing is that modern gamers don't even care.

Not only that, but DLC that's already built into the game, but can't be accessed without hacking or purchasing the DLC!

Yeah, that's the greatest "spitting in your face" offense the industry has done concerning DLC. Even the horse armor is less offensive to having to pay for something that's already on the disk.

Wow, I'm surprised that the Sonic Adventure 2 final boss was so hated. I loved playing it (but disliked almost everything else about the game).

Something that I've always loved about every Sonic game since the beginning is this: the bosses have clear attack patterns and clear hooks. You discover the hook (the technique you must employ to land a hit) and, once you become skilled with it and master the attack patterns, you can win. I thought SA2 did this very well, with the Finalhazard's multiple and challenging attacks and the limited time provided to succeed. Plus, Live and Learn is an awesome final battle song. That, and having various members of the cast call up to you and voice their encouragement, seals the deal for me. I would BS around in space just to extend the time I spent fighting that thing.

Perfect Chaos, by contrast, I found an epic concept but much less exciting in gameplay. There's just the one hook over and over again, and the second half with all the fireballs felt like too much luck was involved. I didn't feel like I had to be skilled at all to win, just persistent. I mean, it's fun, but not as satisfying to me as SA2.

And of course we're all going to agree that Doomsday Zone was the best. It kinda goes without saying in a place like this.
