Smile: Totally got confused when I was coming back to my friends apartment at like 6 in the morning and pushed the buzzer for the wrong apartment. I must have been pushing that thing for like a whole freaking minute before I realized it was the wrong one!
Lol, sucks to be whoever was on the other end of that buzzer!
I like Hobie's suggestion. I'll try to be prepared next time.

yes, the check engine light is on. that's how i found out about the problem.
Yeah, the sensor gives a message that the cat is bad, but it may be the sensor itself that is bad. Also, $1,000-$2000 to replace it? That seems rather exorbitant. Anyways, you might be able to get the whole pipe at a junkyard and disassemble it; no cutting or welding involved.

What year is the car? California has a maximum charge limit to repair older vehicles for smog controls. Wrecking Yard and a friend that can weld could be another option.
2003 Toyota Matrix. The check engine light is on. that's how i found out about the problem.
Seven year old car. Maybe visit one of the Smog Check stations, there should be a poster on the wall stating price limits for older vehicles that repair shops can charge for a Smog Fix.
Wait a minute, does it still pass smog? If the light is only for the Catalytic Converter, I wouldn't worry too much about it unless performance or gas milage suffers. Could be the sensor.
