Microsoft to buy Sega...Maybe?

Microsoft to buy Sega...Maybe?

Post by Droid party »

Anyone think this carries any weight?

And if by some chance this does go through, will it be good or bad for the respective companies involved?

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Nothing would surprise me. I haven't understood a single business decision of Sega's since 1994...the politics between Sega of America and Japan, the constant splitting and re-merging of internal developers, the "we don't have any money or ideas so let's buy up a bunch of developers" approach. Other than the recent Platinum Games deal, I haven't been excited about anything of theirs, really.

Being an old Sega fanatic, I always had grand disillusions of a return to the greatest brand in gaming. One problem was the death of arcades...Sega always made the best games and then brought them into our homes. So, what now?

I always said Sega should hire some young designers who actually love games, team up (or be BOUGHT if necessary, they can split later) with Microsoft and make the console for them. It would never happen that way, but Microsoft has some (okay, lots of) trouble making stable hardware. And after making a strong console, Sega Sammy should resume the functions of the AM development teams...and by the way...DISBAND SEGA OF AMERICA. It just sounds like I want a return to what I believe to be the good old days, but I know the expression "you can never go home again."

So, if MS buys Sega, it could be great. Sega, make less games, make better games. This publisher crap isn't working (except Bleach DS...wow), and your original IPs are average at BEST. Make Microsoft's console. Go find Yu and tell him MS is giving him 10 million to make Shenmue a reality. It could be terrible if Sega is bought and then just sort of fades away, or torn apart piece by piece. Really, though, this would be somewhat less painful than the lingering death that has been going on for so long.

I say, Sega, become the best by any means necessary, even suckling at MS's teat for some revenue.

For MS, it can only be good. Even if it turns sour, they will just throw more money on the corpse to make it go away.

At this point, I would actually like to see this. At least this would get Sega focused on a single console again.
They would also have the financial resources to experiment and possibly bring back some franchises.

I wouldn't mind seeing this either, especially since I've come to the conclusion that the 360 is a good choice among the current gen for a retro gamer. It just seems fitting.

Err, true, but in all honesty I don't have much taste for the Wii. The VC is the best part and I can pretty much emulate all of that stuff anyway (or just play it on the original system with a good controller).

I don't wanna see SEGA become xbox exclusive, because i hate the xbox. There I said it. I've been playing SEGA games since I was a couple months old and I'm a huge SEGA fanboy, but if somethign like that were to happen....then I would never be able to play a SEGA game again.

I think it's safe to say Sega will never again be like it used to be, regardless of what direction they take. The best case scenario is that Sega turns into a quality publishing house again and releases a steady, consistent flow of enjoyable games. If you expect them to go back to the way things were, though, you're either naively ideological or just plain masochistic.
