About Sega saturn RAM 1~4MB (external cartidge)

Post by joncoel »

Well , hi everyone...

Yesterday i bought one of these cartidges, from the main site:
http://www.racketboy.com/store/ramcart.htm

I would like to know if its true that it makes disc swapping easier(my saturn isn't modded,so ,i just swap discs), and if yes , how?

Thanks.

There are indeed special carts that make the disc swaping easier, by "pausing" the console so you can take your time to change the discs, but I don't think this cart does that.

Thanks for the reply!.
Well ,im gonna use the cart just to play games that require extra memory.

But , i really wanna buy a card that will make disc swapping easier(and safer for the hardware).
Can you please name one cart that does that?

There are Action replay carts on ebay...are you talking about them?

Thanks again, and btw , this site is cool.

I only saw one of those carts once (and I'm not 100% sure that they actually work, I've just read about them, never actually tried one myself) and I can't remember what it was called or even if it has a specific name at all.

I'm pretty sure that the usual Action Replay carts don't do that, though.

Even if something makes disc swapping easier, it can still be a little rough on the console. You might want to look into getting a mod chip.

Well , i don't think i can do it by myself.
I've never done anything similar.

I have a model 2 saturn , and yes , i do know that its easy to install mod chip BUT only on right hands
of course.

By the way , the cart that i've been looking is called "Magic Card v2" , but it's not possible to find it.

A video can be found here:

Also , i found something really cool!
Sega saturn boot cd(for developers):

The main purpose behind the system disc was to allow Saturn developers to boot burned discs on a standard retail system. The disc comes in two types, a 1st party disc for internal Sega development, and a 3rd party disc for external developers. We're going to look at the 3rd party disc.

You don't have to be a rocket-scientist to do the Model 2 saturn mod. Before I soldered mine (I didn't have an iron when I got it), I literally taped the power cable to the power supply, and ran the signal wire over to the other side of the mod chip and bent it in place. Ghetto... I know, but if you look at the instructions, they're really easy. Then after you "ghetto-mod" your Saturn, you can find a friend to help. For me, I asked my dad to help me when I visited the folks during Spring Break. :) Really, a modchip is definitely worth the money and effort.

Well i bought a pre-modded console from raluminat, and now i have 2 saturns..lol.
So yeah , now i can finally play backups without doing the swap trick.

Just a question.
This saturn needs a battery(Always asking for date/time/language on startup).
For what kind of battery should i search for?

Racket has them for sale or you can get them at wal-mart. Its a CR2032. I think they cost about half as much ordered from Racket, but if you need it now...
