Dreamcast Boxes

Post by Amnesiac »

This is definitely a silly question, but does anyone know the difference between the Dreamcast's different boxes? One is the technicolored one, while one is the black and blue version.

Was one released later or something? Thanks a lot.

Pretty sure the box on the left is from 2000 onwards and the box on the right is from the release (1999). My years are probably wrong but I'm certain that the box on the right was the first 'edition' if you will and the box on the left is a later designed box.

I think the one on right was the launch date Dreamcast. However, Iam also not 100% sure, but im about 80% certain it was.

The white color scheme on DC boxes, accessories, and games lasted throughout 1999. In 2000, all future DC items would be just in black.

Anyone else notice how 90's the orange box looks and how modern the black box looks? It boggles the mind, I wonder if they thought "Hmm, our box is SOOO last decade." and redesigned it.

Yup! That was always the incentive if I recall correctly. At some point they finally chose to omit their logo. Good thing they still kept it on the actual console.
