Right, because Samus Aran, Terra, Joanna Dark, Jade from Mortal Kombat, and Princesses Zelda, Peach, and Daisy are all heavily Japanized.Gamerforlife wrote:It's just that I've seen enough diversity in this forum to know that there are people here who've enjoyed non-japanese games in the past couple of years. Yet, these types of threads are still heavily dominated by characters from japanese rpgs, japanese fighting games, ect.AppleQueso wrote:This is a retro game forum with especially a focus on retro console gaming.
Japanese games dominated the console game industry up until oh maybe last generation or so?
Just makes sense to me.
Who cares about stereotypes anyway? They're pretty much always negative and always wrong.
It just seems so typical I guess. Hardcore gamers always seem to obsess over japanese characters
This just has to do with the nature of Japanese vs. American game character design. Take RPGs, for instance. The lead females in JRPGs are interesting fleshed out characters with distinct personalities. The female characters in my Western RPGs are simply cyphers ("female mage", "female warrior", etc). Which one am I likely to mention in a thread about the top 100 video game girls?Gamerforlife wrote:I have to agree, but I've learned not to take these threads too seriously anymore. I'm actually more concerned about the stereotype of gamers being obsessed with anime girls as 90 % of the characters in these threads are from japanese games.dsheinem wrote:I never said they all were, I only indicated that, as a whole, these threads tend to lean heavily in that direction and thus reinforce a negative stereotype of male gamers (which has certainly been the case).alienjesus wrote: I think that it's incredibly narrow minded of you to think that all these entries are purely about how these characters look.

It helps that the same guy did the character designs for both games.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Alena (Dragon Quest IV). Breaks the mold of the typical weak girl back-up/healer character as she has physical strength that rivals the men. Plus, the hat/cape combo is awesome and she looks like she'd be friends with the Chrono Trigger girls.
Let me guess her name, Rape McBeating?o.pwuaioc wrote:
