Anyway, I saw FF XIII-2 at Best Buy last night. Artwork looks nice enough I guess. Skipped over it and picked up Okamiden instead.
Last I heard, Square-Enix was only just considering a 3DS remake of V and VI.

I ended up buying FFXIII-2 yesterday because Amazon bumped up their bonus offer to $20 store credit. I should be getting it today. As soon as I have a chance to play a decent amount of it, I'll report back with my thoughts.

Which one might that be?

Um, if they are going to do it like FF4 then they might as well not bother. Now if the characters look more like FF8 characters, then I'm up for it :D

Xenoblade is excellent. Got the US edition pre-ordered, but I have already played it via soft modded Wii. I have The Last Story pre-ordered too. :D

Pirate copy or did you order it from Europe? And did The Last Story get announced for the US? I thought it was only Xenoblade...

Ah yes, can't really comment on that one, seeing as I'm a US-er with a broken Wii SD slot :/

I'd rather get Pandora's Tower anyways.

Downloaded. I was going to order from Europe but kept holding off until it was actually announced for the US.

I'm several hours into FFXIII-2 now and my feelings are pretty consistent with most of the reviews that are out there. FFXIII-2 is an improvement over the first game in almost every respect. It seems Square-Enix just made a laundry list of the criticisms of the first game and tried their best to correct a majority of them.

Minor spoilers below:
  • Didn't like FFXIII's linearity? Lots more exploration now and you can choose which locations and time periods you travel to (to a certain extent)
  • Twenty hour tutorial too much for you? That's been knocked that down to about an hour this time around.
  • That pause in battle when you shift Paradigms. Gone!
  • Lots of people hated Vanille. She's completely absent from the game (at least so far)
  • Found Snow and Hope annoying? Now they are minor characters.
The list goes on but you get the idea.
I am one of those weird people that thought FFXIII was pretty good but I also thought it was one of the weaker entries into the series. As you can imagine, I am really enjoying FFXIII-2 due to the improvements. That said, Square-Enix didn't get everything right on the second try. The story can be a bit nonsensical at times and the dialogue suffers from it. However the voice acting is very well done. The actors that do Serah and Noel should be given major props for pulling off some corny lines extremely well. I think pretty much everyone will agree that Chocolina is a bit on the absurd side but you can easily skip her unimportant dialogue so she doesn't annoy me too much.

Essentially I am enjoying everything about the game except for its weak plot. I love the visuals, the battle system, and the admittedly eclectic music selections. Overall I'd give the game 4 out of 5 at this point. We'll see if I still feel the same way after I finish it.

I'm about an hour in myself. I was another one of those weirdos that enjoyed XIII. Though I think this one is pretty great from the little I've seen of it so far...
