Final Fantasy II - Like an old comfortable sweatshirt
Re: Final Fantasy II - Like an old comfortable sweatshirt
You failed to mention that you don't have to abuse the system to progress in the game, especially if you are playing the GBA/PSP version.

And yeah that's exactly what I liked about the PSP version. You do gain stat ups normally as you would in other games if you were obtaining exp over time or something. I did grind the magic a bit, but that's about it. Everything else just leveled up naturally.
It was definitely easy though, but oh well. I've beaten FFIII (NES) which probably isn't as hard, but the final dungeon(s) should give me a free pass here...

I just left Mysidia, where they replaced every instance of the word "pray" with "wish". Well, it's good to know the elder is in the wishing tower, wishing for me.

It's amazing what can be conveyed through a sprite and one frame of animation. When Cecil rescues Rosa and Kain turns around and puts his head down, you know exactly what he is feeling.

Re: Final Fantasy II - Like an old comfortable sweatshirt
Such an awesome part in the game (the twins).
I actually did start to play this game... again. Right now I'm about to venture into the underworld. I'm pretty close to the furthest point I've reached last time. I really do like this game, so hopefully I can finish it this time. Better backup my save.
edit: And I now remembered why I stopped playing it the last time. As I've already posted, I was playing up until the underworld on my SNES cart when my save was dropped. But I was really enjoying the game, so I started over with the PS1 version. I pretty much raced straight through the PS1 version until I got to the underworld part. Then I was massively under-leveled since I never stopped to grind. I got up to the dungeon where you need Rydia's float magic, but I didn't have it. My party was so far behind in levels, and at that point I just played pretty much the first half of the game twice, so I just kinda lost the will to play.
This time, since I haven't played the game in a few years now, I've been grinding at the sweet spots. I don't know where people's levels normally are, but I'm just about to enter the underworld and my characters' levels are around 30.
I'm just curious... What are people's levels usually at this point in the game? And what levels are you usually at by the last battle?

Re: Final Fantasy II - Like an old comfortable sweatshirt
I have yet to grind at all in my current game. The only time I have run so far is when encountering triple yetis. They were nasty. I also don't remember having to grind when I was younger. That was always one of the things I enjoyed about the game. Although I am playing the SNES version, so maybe enemies are easier.
I am just now entering the volcano, so I will check my character levels later tonight.

I've played through about halfway on both the SNES and Psx versions. You definitely have to grind in the psx one. SNES one you can kinda just blaze straight through.Zing wrote:I have yet to grind at all in my current game. The only time I have run so far is when encountering triple yetis. They were nasty. Yeti?Zing wrote:The only time I have run so far is when encountering triple yetis.
The very first time I played this some 17 years ago I got all the way up to the Demon Wall. It was there that I noticed I was too underpowered to beat it, and no matter how hard I tried, I kept losing. "Grinding" was a foreign idea to me, this being my first proper RPG. (I played Secret of Mana first, but I didn't know about grinding either. Suffice it to say, I hit a few hard spots along the way!) It took a little while for me to realize that I needed to just grind away for hours to get up to that point. From there it was easy until the moon. Now whenever I play I somehow don't grind too much, but still overpower...again, until the moon.

Not sure why I said yeti. I meant ogres. They were in the dark elf cave.

I think I grinded twice in the PSX version, but I do think in any version you eventually do need to grind a little towards the end or the final boss will laugh at your utter demise blowing you to pieces. BIG BANG!!!!!!
