Retro game prices too high on eBay?Gamestop thinks otherwise

Maybe they're starting to worry. Maybe this is a test to see if they should start carrying retro games again.

Maybe they could make a deal with chains like GameStop and Play-N-Trade to be licensed, because yeah, having a Capcom store and a Sega store along with all the rest wouldn't really be feasible.sbk wrote:This sounds expensive. You are cutting into profit margins by spreading it out. Which in turn will make them charge more. Most likely.BurningDoom wrote:How about this solution, it could please everyone. Why not there be licensed retail stores that sell used games from the gaming companies? Much like a used car lot that's licensed. That way the game companies get a piece of the pie, and budget gamers don't get screwed.

I just went and looked, and they added a bunch since I saw last, which was mere days ago. So they must be continually adding stuff. So far, it's all NES and SNES stuff, though. I saw Dragon Warrior, Sim City, Street Fighter II, Super Mario Bros., and even a Super Game Boy added.
What's funny, though, is that Super Mario Bros. is by far the most expensive one, and it's probably the MOST common NES game of them all. lol

Not Gamestop or Play-N-Trade, but there's a company looking to do almost exactly this.BurningDoom wrote:

Is there actually a market that will save the $5 and take the preowned game? I've always wondered if GameStop actually sold those games (I guess to others than ones duped into accepting the "want to save $5 and buy this used one?" offer). Will Parcel Gamer really be able to do all this while maintaining a viable business model? Kennedy says that it will, thanks to significantly lower profit margins and overhead than major brick-and-mortar retailers. He gave an example where the site pays out $30 for a recent release, then resells it for a cheaper-than-new $55. That leaves enough margin to purchase a $10 online pass, pay $5.50 to the publisher, pay $4 for round trip shipping, and still reap $5.50 in actual profit, he said.

Bought a $19.99 game at Game Stop last night. Clerk says, "Are you sure you want this new one? I have a used one for $18.99."

He could lose his job if he doesn't make enough used sales.retrosportsgamer wrote:He's a company man (or woman).BoneSnapDeez wrote:Bought a $19.99 game at Game Stop last night. Clerk says, "Are you sure you want this new one? I have a used one for $18.99."
The very existance of those price points implies that, yes, many people really would rather save $5 than have a manual.

Parcel Gamer sounds fan-freaking-tastic! But it sounds TOO good to be true.sabrage wrote:Not Gamestop or Play-N-Trade, but there's a company looking to do almost exactly this.BurningDoom wrote:

GS sells used games CIB. I picked up Star Fox Adventures CIB less than a year ago. The manual wasn't exactly in perfect condition, but it was there.sabrage wrote:He could lose his job if he doesn't make enough used sales.retrosportsgamer wrote:He's a company man (or woman).BoneSnapDeez wrote:Bought a $19.99 game at Game Stop last night.
