It's equally as dumb. You just haven't gotten into the right movies yet. Or haven't tried. But this really does sound just like a modern gamer dismissing retro games. I guess we can't all be perfect.
Except that black and white is a flat out hindrance. Unless you're trying to do something well beyond your console's limits (Star Fox, Space Channel 5 GBA, etc), your game can age much better than a movie.
Black and white is about as much of a hindrance as 2D is to games.[/quote]
Depends on the genre. 2D platformers only become 2.5D ones in 3D, whereas some genres like FPSes and TPSes *almost* require 3D.

Thats so true. Shooting in black and white is about painting the picture with light, that you cannot do with color. It is far more technical. I highly suggest watching Raiders of the Lost Ark in black and white and all of the sudden, those odd looking inside scenes look beautiful.
What? Yes, I know about 3D platformers, but you can hardly say that they're anything similar to 2D ones in terms of gameplay. They're basically another genre altogether.

I don't know about black and white been a complete hindrance, remember the scenes of the stuff animals in Psycho? they didn't look nearly as good in the remake because they didn't have the same level of contrast on the shadows.
I really don't have a problem with watching things in black and white, although I agree that much of it hasn't aged well, imo thats nothing to do with the medium that its recorded in.
No audio is a massive disadvantage to tell storied with film though, I'll give you that and outside of Chaplin and Keaton I can only really claim to have seen Metropolis from the silent era.

Try Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari), Der letzte Mann (The Last Laugh), The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, or even 2011's The Artist.
Anyone ragging on old movies in here ought to watch the original Cabinet of Dr. Caligari - it's a 1920 silent, black + white, German expressionist film that'll knock your socks off visually.
Back on topic: I was born in '91, so I guess technically, I'm an 'N64 kid' but I started off with SMB3 and an NES toploader before I was even 3 years old! I didn't end up getting a '64 'till '97 for my 6th birthday, and played lots of SNES and PS1 with my cousin prior to that. I consider my early gaming years a blessing, my cousin even had a CD-I and a Coleovision for us to mess around with.
