There is no reason to spend $100 getting converters to output Component VGA with your saturn, as it still won't look as good, and Battle Garegga is one of the few that is actually worth it. I will never play Donpachi or Dodonpachi on my saturn again, aside to compare differences (and maybe to hear that sweet remix for stage 0 DDP) I will say, its nice that the saturn can play the soundtracks from those games in nice quality. I think I use it for that more now than actually playing the games.

Yeah, there is no TATE'ing this monitor, but the vertical picture is about 22", so I'm ok with it like that. The thing weighs 228lbs, but it also auto syncs as low as 15khz, and since its a CRT, and not an HDCRT, it gets the scanelines without the input delay. Its the best TV I could have asked for, and someone over on shmups dropped it off at my door for free. I was like a little kid, running around with a boner and not knowing what to do with it.
Any idea how my high res monitor CRT handles the scan lines? I'm not really clear on this topic, to be honest. But I do know that Battle Garegga and Triggerheart Exelica looked amazing. Far better than they do on my 47" LCD.

I am using MAME32, which has scaneline options. If they don't look too good (I havent used em since Im on a crt), then I think the only option is to get something like the SLG3000 or XRGB. From what I have seen in some youtube videos about the subject, an LCD in TATE through VGA with scanelines is one of the nicest setups you can get.

I think the scanelines offered by MAME should be pretty sweet, the SLG3000 should only be needed if you want to play console games that dont offer scanlines.

The only 2 ports I know of that offer scanlines in their options are Futari and Raiden Fighters Aces. Those games through your VGA monitor with those scanlines on will look golden.

What is special about the scanlines? Would just give my CRT a lower res and thus more arcade like look?

Yeah, the sprites were designed to be viewed with scanlines, so it will make the sprites sharper, and less chunky. You'll be able to tell the difference when you play with the options in Futari.

You'll still be getting a 480i image, so it wont be low res, but I think it makes it look much better, especially when you also turn the smoothing off (which you have to do in most cave ports)

Futari has like 8 different kinds of scanlines you can choose from. Its really nice!

Hmm. But I guess my CRT will have to scale because it's 1600 x 1200. I wonder if it'd be better to get one that's 480i/p. But I guess a 480i/p screen wouldn't be as good for all my doujin games. They all support that resolution but some of the newer ones are capable of much higher. Life is hard. :P I am also guessing a CRT TV of the same size will be a bit heavier than a CRT PC monitor.

Hmm, if you have a CRT pc monitor, it should already have scanlines if I'm not mistaken, which would explain why everything looked so good from the get go.

You actually gave me an idea, I should pull out my old pc monitor and see how MAME looks through it.

It is quite a pain trying to get a setup that will look good for older games, and still work well with newer titles as well. Even with this epic NEC monitor, I still need to get an LCD to play those 16:9 ratio games, and those realistic-looking xbox360 games that look much better on an LCD or LED tv.

It looks fantastic, but I didn't really look for scanlines. I'll look more closely tonight. I assume it has scanlines for 1600 x 1200? I don't know how CRT scaling works besides that it scales much better than an LCD

Hmmm. I wonder if the non-shmup games I have for the 360 have full screen options. I have 2 iDOLM@STER games, a fighter, and Child of Eden. I'm getting rid of my Kinect cuz I won't be playing CoE on a 19" screen. Don't think I'll want to be moving the 360 all the time to switch from the 47" LCD to the 19" CRT. I guess I could put it in a spot in between both... Hmmm... :/

Ha ha, thats what I did. My 360 and ps2 are in between my two systems, and I have 3 way (360, ps, wii) cables hooked up to each, so I can switch between them with just one plug in.

Whoops, realized that we have cluttered a page with non-garegga.

1,965,670 -- ExedExes -- Stage 3 -- Gain -- MAME

Can we count the hidden characters? Gain is freakin ungodly. Bombs & options. Saw the end of stage 3 with him.
