I bought this game tonight and tried it out for the first time ever.
First off, I was really surprised by the huge arsenal you're packing right off the bat. Its cool, but there's so many I tend to forget I have some of them.
Its fun, I like it, but I also suck. I'm pretty sure its genuinely difficult as well, but still.
Any tips from you old pros?

Play, play, play. Instead of continuing after you've lost all your lives, start over - well, that's what I do. You'll find its quicker to memorize enemy patterns and you'll get better in any given level. Also, you'll "level" up you're weapons without even knowing it and soon find you'll destroy bosses in no time.
I played the demo all I can really say is:
It's very good looking. I also like having the "low-res" option.
and:
It's very awkward playing this with a 4-button controller. I'm going to have to pick up one of those Street-Fighter 6-button 360 pads.
I may download this at some point, though 2D shooters are not one of my favorite genres. It is Radiant freaking Silvergun though. Here was my favorite level from playing it back on the Saturn. I almost got through this without a single hit once, until the very end of the stage when something took me by surprise. Gotta love the music here

Seriously. Screw you Shao Kahn I'm gonna play Animal Crossing.
personally im loving the game. i have played the game before on one occasion but it was way too short to learn much of anything about it...so now that i can fully judge it, this may be my favorite all time shooter. upon some research, there is apparently some differences. i this is going only off my memory of what i read online but many people seem to find leveling easier as well as the pace of the game seems to be fast for them. so i would think it's all just minor balancing issues. these same people all go on to say that this stuff has not hampered their experience with this version and that they love it. also i am aware that the saturn version had a cool options+ if you have the game on for more the 50 hours. no one has been about to get to this point so no one knows if it will be in the game or not. I'm hoping so personally.
Having been the proud owner of the Saturn game for many years now, I was more than happy to buy this game a second time. Absolutely loving it, as ever.
The updated HD graphics look great (including remastered cut-scenes, which are much appreciated). Not to mention the full English subtitles, for the first time ever. These factors alone make it worth getting, even for people who still have a Saturn copy. In addition to this, the arcade and story modes have both been tweaked slightly (as far as your credits and progression goes) and there are also a wide range of training mode options available, without the need to unlock them, so you can start working on improving your chains right away.
It's basically everything you could hope for (and IMO it's always been a far more deep and enjoyable game than Ikaruga). It pretty much makes the Saturn version redundant; maybe it's time I considered selling it...
About the only thing I can see that's missing is the Merry Dog pen. It still tracks how many you've found, but the menus have changed so you don't get to see them running around in the pen. Apart from that, everything is either the same, or better.
I use my Street Fighter IV Six button controller to play this and it is a lot easier to progress and get better at it when your six weapons are mapped to face buttons. I have the sword as the right shoulder button. One of these controllers is ideal for this game, considering it was originally designed for Saturn with a controller that had the same button layout as the Xbox Street Fighter pad. I also use the same controller when playing Deathsmiles so I can have all the directions and weapons available on face buttons.
