I'm all for the humor in the Metal Gears, but this isn't even remotely funny. It's borderline childish, as if they asked some kid off a MGS forum to write some jokes for their game.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Agreed, only Metal Gear games will you ever see this kind of thing, and they are puns yes, but you cant help but chuckle at them.Funk, E wrote:Wait, since when does Metal Gear have integrity? Probably the lamest thing I've ever seen in a game, especially one that is supposed to have so much integrity.
Dumbest (and lamest) thing I've ever seen in video game...

Hah, that's a good one. Metal Gear Solid games always have weird little inside jokes such as this. Flak Beard, calm down, You're acting like they said your woman has a 9GB limit.
Oh and anyway, the dumbest and lamest thing I've probably ever seen in a video game was the Pizza Hut promotionals in TMNT2. I mean come on, Pizza Hut has always been a tasteless, greasy mess, while Little Ceaser's, Godfather's, and Papa John's are all vastly superior.

I think the joke was meant for hardcore Metal Gear gamers. I thought it was funny. I think he was trying to break the fourth wall with that joke, in reference to the PS1 and mutiple discs for Metal Gear Solid. Of course, not everyone will get the joke or think it is funny. Can't please them all, Flak Beard included. Anyway, I can understand why Flak Beard and other might think it was a jab at the XBOX 360. Personally, I don't think it was intentional.
On a side note, I didn't get to buy the MGS4 Bundle at Wal-Mart with its free $100 gift card. First time I went to buy something at midnight. I was the 9th person in line and Wal-Mart only had 7 bundles. At least I only waited 20 minutes so it was no biggie. Oh well, it was fun. Met a couple of girls who were buying for themselves to play, though they didn't care much for the game. They just wanted the system because it was cheap.

I still get people coming into the store who don't even know what Blu-ray is. I really don't see DVD going anywhere anytime soon.lordofduct wrote:Soon to be dead DVD?In a hilarious sequence from Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4, Hideo Kojima has taken an opportunity to make fun on the Nintendo Wii and the Microsoft Xbox 360 as both systems use the soon-to-be-dead DVD optical disc format.
I hope that is sarcasm... because I have seen no signs of DVD go anywhere. Nor have I seen signs of Blu-ray doing so hot.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.
Yeah, I suppose the graphics and the voiceovers are 'fake' as well. Seriously, what's going on here? All I'm seeing are baseless claims of mud-slinging (as mentioned already, it's clearly a reference to the PS1's installment) and HEHEHEIHATEMAINSTREAMPOPULAROVERRATEDSYSTEMSELLERS.vlame wrote:most likely fake the subs are wrong.
And Flak, is it really so appalling that there is a joke that doesn't make you laugh in this game? Why exactly did you feel the need to point it out, is it because the game receives generally positive reception in regard to its humor? Come on, I couldn't name how many lame jokes I've had the unfortunate experience of observing in games; a lot of RPGs and games like Devil May Cry contain copious amounts of them, but this isn't something that falls under the LAMEST THING EVER category - not at all. You're definitely overreacting and looking beyond something that is really just a simple reference to a previous game, something Kojima does a LOT.
I don't see how anyone could percieve this as a dig towards other consoles - to me it seemed like a dig towards all the idiots who kept making up/reporting "MGS4 for the 360" rumours on their crappy blogs & sites to drum up traffic, despite Kojipro stating on numerous occasions that the game would require a double layered blu-ray disc (25gb+) making it unfeasable for DVD9 and any consoles using that format.
It's just Hideo's attempt at breaking the fourth wall. Like on MGS1 with the meryl codec on the back of the case. (which was a nod towards old games using some sort of physical media for their copy protection) OR the Psycho Mantis battle.
I quite like these little quirks.
BTW I got the game yesterday, has anyone played it yet?

I hope I'm not being labeled as an MS fanboy here, because I've certainly thrown a lot of money Sony's way over the last decade. Both model PS1s, both model PS2s (one at launch), a PSP and I plan to get a PS3 in the future. I also have nothing wrong with the humor in the MGS games. Although, when you take it outside the game and actually reference the product the game is on (and it's features), you have to question the meaning. This stuff is best left for press conference or advertising, but to actually bring it in to the game development is lame. It's amazing what you get away with when everyone thinks you're a game developing genius.
Imagine if a game like Halo referenced things like "Xbox Live" from within the game's story? People would be up in arms.
But perhaps I am wrong, and Hideo is just trying to put an end to the MGS4 on 360 rumors. Of course, I wouldn't exactly consider him a credible source on the necessity of BluRay anymore considering his game has two 90 minute cut scenes. Looks like we know where all that extra space went to. Anyway, that's a whole different topic altogether, one I don't wish to discuss in length.
