oh my you, I could not figure out what was going on in this game at all initially. It doesn't help that everything is explained with vague icons and no words.
edit: Also, Starflight for the genesis is initially very intimidating without a guide. Not impossible, just tough.
Current systems: Atari 2600[x2], NES(top loader), SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation, PS2, PS2 slim, xbox, xbox 360, Turbografx-16, Game Boy Pocket, Game boy SP[x2], Nintendo DS[x2], Nintendo DSi, Nintendo 3DS, Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Wonderswan Color, Neo Geo MVS.
I don't know if this has been posted or not but Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
That game with a dictionary of info to play! Still a lot of fun those if you are into educational games. Still haven't been able to find a copy of it with the manual that's in mint condition.
At one point you have to get a radio frequency off the back of the packaging. They also kept this gimmick in for Twin Snakes.
That one infuriated me so much the first time. I ended up discovering the frequency by going through them one at a time, manually.
I can relate as well. LOL. I actually figured it out after a while though. The game gives you hints by saying things like, the frequency to continue is on the CD, and "Look at the back of the CD case."
I remember trying to find an item that was a CD with no luck. Finally, out of sheer boredom, I was looking at the back of the case, and one picture is different than the others of gameplay. Its higher quality than the others, and it just says, "Meryl" under the picture of the codec with the frequency. I'll be damned if that didn't just work like a charm, and the game was telling me exactly where to look.
On a side note, God of War 1 and 2 for the PS2 have posters that are printed on the back of the DVD case label. You wouldn't know it because the DVD case isn't see through, but if you pull out the label, it has a poster printed on the back.
I seem to recall another PS2 game that had a map printed this same way?

IIRC, Jak 2 had a map on the back of the insert, but not the Greatest Hits version.

Crazy Climber for the Famicom. Just because the controls are so unique, it must be the only Famicom/ NES game where you have to use the 1 and 2 player controllers at the same time while playing it.
Pre-internet, good luck figuring out the strengths and weaknesses to all 60 players in Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball. This is by far the most important sports game manual I've come across.
This was a Broderbund title too (also of Carmen San Diego fame of course)
