Re: BATTLE GAREGGA - Hi-scores
Updated OP, nice score man. I'm always out of bombs on that 3rd boss - get wasteful mid-stage. Maybe w/the red ball deal things will get much better.

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA - Hi-scores
Scoring trick: on stage 2, when you get to the trees, bomb them to reveal flamingoes, then bomb those flamingos until you are out. You should at least hit a million at that point, if not 2.
Gather up all the bomb frags you can before that point, and die once on the first boss to lower the rank and get more bombs. Then you can have enough bombs for both extends, if you are lucky. The flamingos are hard to hit, so its inconsistent, and each bomb is different.
To avoid raising rank, I only grab the first small shot powerup, and then avoid all small shot powerups. They raise rank, whereas the large shot powerups do not, and are the only way to hit full power.
The more you score in one area, the more you have to make up for it in others. If you are medalchaining, the game will get mean, fast.
Best game ever

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA - Hi-scores
Well, i gave it a go. I know nothing about how this game works, but I'll have to learn quickly.
635,620 - ZenErik - stage 3 - Silver-Sword - MAME
That was my second attempt. I had a few more after and seemed to just get worse.Only my 2nd time actually playing the game anyway. First time i played for about 10 minutes. Damn I suck.
Thanks for the scoring tip. I'll try it the next time I feel like getting my ass kicked.

So it has the same rank system as Batrider? Oy.dunpeal2064 wrote:Scoring trick: on stage 2, when you get to the trees, bomb them to reveal flamingoes, then bomb those flamingos until you are out. You should at least hit a million at that point, if not 2.

Will try it in MAME and get a good score here when I can.

1,658,270 - ExedExes - Stage 3 - Golden Bat - MAME
ExedExes thoughts on Battle Garegga (opening):
This game has given me a modern school throwdown on this old school shmupper's sensibility. If it weren't for Dunpeal's little "trick", I would have not had a good score.
Also didn't realize there were *3* buttons for this game <--- used to the old school 2 button layout, and each button or a combination thereof gives you a different ship with better abilities at selection.
I liked the Wild Snail to start with, so why not hit 1 + 2 + 3 for Golden Bat -- easily the best there is, and its bomb can get those points (and lives) plenty fast in Stage 2.
Learning to not pick up everything I see to keep the craziness down to a point that's manageable. Again, when you're born & raised in shmups of the 80s it takes a while to warm - up to the new bullet hell stuff. That's why I'm glad to be here on RB and glad that we are doing a TR-Shmup and high scores for the newer titles here.

Re: BATTLE GAREGGA - Hi-scores
The 3rd button enables a direction change to the Options. Much like picking up multiple "S" power ups in Raiden Fighters, pressing the 3rd buttons allows the options to front-fire, side fire, back fire, rotate fire, and return them to their normal positions.ZenErik wrote:What's the 3rd button? Re: BATTLE GAREGGA - Hi-scores
Wow. i had no idea. Thanks for the tip! I also saw on the shmups forum that the ship I was using doesn't get many high scores. Most of the high scores there used wild snailExedExes wrote:The 3rd button enables a direction change to the Options.
