I like to check IGN every so often for keeping up to date on current games, which they do a decent job of, but they have never been good for retro stuff (obviously). When they do have an occasional article about something retro it's always plagued by ignorant comments.
They happened to have an article about the Analogue CMVS (you know, the sexy wooden Neo Geo) and the comments section made me realize that a lot of people are very out of touch with their gaming roots, and they wouldnt have their Call of Duty's and Madden without previous generations paving the way.
Anyway, some of the comments were so bad I had to share with you guys.
"650 bucks for a 20 year old system? I don't give a crap if the casing is solid gold...that is staggering in its level of outright stupidity. "
This one is rich:
"I never understood the appeal to the Neo Geo AES. These games look identical to SNES games, and the best Genesis games. It must be like the psycho PC-only crowd who'd rather pay 4x the cost of a gaming console to build a rig that can Battlefield 3, only with less screen tearing or some dumb s***. "
I understand the cost is high, and I wouldnt be able to get it any time soon (though if I had the funds I would consider it) but to make such ignorant comments makes you glad to be part of a community that understands and embraces all games, without crying that their yearly installment of their favorite FPS got a 9.0 rating.

Maybe if they had these things called "arcades", they could see how cool the NG was. Can't wait to see their reaction to all the failed niche consoles such as the 3DO and such.

Well it's not that surprising honestly. We're in the niche now, gaming went so mainstream this past decade so we could be in the minority against modern gamers who might say they grew up on Halo instead of Super Mario Bros.

I read the article too... and I always somehow manage to scroll down to the comments. I know better than to do it too, but for some reason I always end up there.
They also had an article on Sony's comments on the PS4. There was the usual console war going on down in the comments, but one that made me want to explode was:
"PS1 - First console to use CDs"

I dont know what I do this too, but I always have to look at the comments, most of the time only to be annoyed by ignorant fan-boy wars or comments like I quoted.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:I read the article too... and I always somehow manage to scroll down to the comments. A kinda sad thought: Today's 11-13 year olds most likely played a gamecube or ps2 as their first console.
Your average teenager started gaming at the ps1.

They'll never know the magic of sprites like we do. Hell, most kids that grew up with the PS1 don't either. I was lucky enough to have a Genesis and a PS1 growing up.AppleQueso wrote:A kinda sad thought: Today's 11-13 year olds most likely played a gamecube or ps2 as their first console.

After viewing that PS1 comment -- I was gonna put this in the Image dump thread but this thread is so appropriate for it
