Look at this Gamefaqs poll, in particular, the third result.

Over the weekend, someone was getting rid of their old game magazines. I was able to pick up 5 years worth of Nintendo Power (late 90s), 2 years of Dreamcast magazines, 4 years of Xbox magazines, and various guides from Freecycle for free.

I started reading one of the Nintendo Power issues that must have been early 2001. There was a letter to the editor where someone complained about the price of Majora's Mask. The MSRP was set to $79.99. Wow. Were most of the N64 games that expensive?

Yup, many were. It's the number one reason the N64 has such a small library and wasn't ever able to overtake the Playstation.

The price of the hardware to make carts was huge compared to pressing CDs. The bigger SNES RPGs were in the $60-75 range too.

does anybody know of a cheap (as in, free) fix for a flaky headphone jack? Right channel on my old ipod keeps cutting out. You can kinda get it to work if you fiddle with the connector (pressing it down seems to work well) but yeah.'

Most of the stuff I've found on google are just telling you how to replace the jack. I don't feel like doing that right now :P

Probably jerked the cord and busted a solder joint. That would be a free fix if you already have a fine point soldering iron.

I was thinking of this the other day though, I'm glad Nintendo decided to stick with cartridges for the N64.

But let's face it, it may be cheaper to make disc games, but they're still expensive as hell.

I don't think I have one, bah.

Any other options?

I didn't know that about the SNES games. To be honest, I haven't really tracked game prices for almost 20 years so I have no clue what the going rate was.

I asked one of my friends who bought the N64 for his girls when they were growing up. He didn't remember cart prices being that high. His recollection was in the $30 range.
