Has anyone here tried this?
I've been meaning to replace my Sega CD's battery for awhile now and this seems like this would be the best method to use since it would also make replacing the battery later a heck of allot easier.
Can anyone here comment on the reliability of this mod? It seems pretty simple and I know you can get those battery box's pre-wired so that minimizes the steps to just de-soldering the old battery joints and then re-soldering the two wires for the battery box in.

Re: Sega CD AA Battery Mod.
Opening your SCD every year or two to replace the batteries will suck and if you forget you could end up with a corroded mess in there. At least when the original fails, it generally won't barf its innards everywhere. If I were going to swap in something besides a rechargeable 2032 I'd opt for some other quality high MaH battery that will not explode instead of AAs.

Yeah I thought about that, but isn't there some higher quality AAs that prevent that, or am I imagining things?

Something else I just thought of. If the battery in the system is a rechargeable, feeding juice through normal batteries when you have the system plugged in and running is also a good way to make normal AAs get hot and leak or blow up.

It looks like a coin cell style battery holder could fit in there easily too.
AA's are an inelegant solution at best (and Hobie already mentioned the worst).

Don't the rechargeable coin cell batteries require you to have the system on at least once a month in order for it to maintain saves? Also, you can get rechargeable AAs that don't leak (don't know how well they would work in this case though).
