Well assuming that's the case I think I'm gonna have to ignore the shmup lord's beckoning and count their votes anyway.

That makes the voting needlessly messing though... poll votes + forum votes because the poll isn't working. Assuming dsheinem and EllertMichael were able to vote we'd have a Metal Black/Gekirindan tie.
Since we do have 2 finalists now with the people not being able to vote in the poll, one more between MB and Geki?

I also read somewhere that on the real TR for this year, they had a tough time deciding a game, but Racketboy himself broke the tie and cast a vote. Can the boss of this operation do the same, perhaps? I heartily endorse DSH and Bruno's original vote, and go for Metal Black -- and I'd play Gekiridan and Rayforce too, just not for counting of course

Yeah I think you're right, Metal Black it is. That should satisfy everyone anyway, at least to some extent. So the schedule is starting to come together pretty nicely:

January: Toaplan - Truxton
February: Konami - Axelay
March: Psikyo - Dragon Blaze
April: Compile - Zanac X Zanac (Zanac Neo)
May: Raizing - Great Mahou Daisakusen
June: Taito - Metal Black

Onto Treasure and July then. Remember, traditional shmups only, so no Alien Soldier, Gunstar, Dynamite Headdy, etc. My boring and predictable votes:

+3 Gradius V
+2 Radiant Silvergun
+1 Ikaruga

Don't they only have the 3 shmups? Although the team that would become Treasure did program Axelay, if I'm not mistaken.

+3 Radiant Silvergun
+2 Ikaruga
+1 Silpheed

EDIT: So I finally have a pc, and got MAME running on it (outputting the picture to my tv, so I am super happy about this setup)

After playing all 3 versions of Tatsujin, I can confidently say that the PCE version is much harder than the original PCB. I really don't understand why they decided to make that port so freakin tough.

So far, my MAME score is only in the 60,000 ballpark, but I'll work on that and a better Genesis run tonight.

Something interesting: The PCB and PCE versions share more similarities than either do with the Gen port. For example, the first "medium-size" enemies you come across, that can either shoot a pink beam at you, or 3 small orange shots. In the PCB and PCE versions, those shots alternate, 2 balls, 1 beam. (this happens much too fast in the pce port, and I actually find myself bombing on every medium enemy). In the genesis port, however, the enemies will decide what they shoot based on where you are. You can have them just shoot beams if you stay in front of them, and if they corner you, they will only shoot balls.

Not really groundbreaking, but I thought the difference was neat. Also, the Gen port's 3rd level powerup on red gives you a shield that will destroy an enemy on contact, preventing back-attacks that are common in stage 2. In the PCE port, you instead get a wider shot. I haven't reached full power in MAME yet.

Glad I was able to join in on this, even if I am way late.

@dunpeal2064

I think Slipheed is their only other straight up shmup. Guess that means the voting isn't going to end up messy like the Taito vote.

Also, interesting to hear your thoughts on all three ports. Better late than never, I wish I put some more time into Truxton this month myself, but I have to admit, it didn't end up being one of my favorite Toaplan games. It's good, but ultimately it just made me want to play other shmups, hah.

I'll just take that as +2 Gradius +1 Ikaruga.

Unless he meant Silpheed. Actually, if more people are interested in Silpheed, I'd change my vote so that it gets +3. It's the only one of the games I own, and still super, super cheap.

Please don't. I do not want to give any points to Ikaruga and only one point to Gradius.
