VHS is a tape dude, no duh it wont fit let alone work on a disk based system, also the DC came out right when DVD's were kicking off, there is no modification to play either one of them and if there was it would be only for DVD. As far as CD+G or VCD's I highly recommend the 3DO.
im playin around, obviously it wouldnt work. thought you wouldve caught onto the sarcasm.

i was pretty heart set on the dreamcast playing some kinda video file. im not really interested in any other console being able to play 'em. i simply heard it was able to, but didnt know of any methods...i was under the impression that it was just a convert, burn and go process...guess its a lost cause.

FYI, Sarcasm is usually detected by tone of voice hence on the Internet it can be hard to discern especially when you act like someone completely ignorant versus just being sarcastic. Feel free to use the handy  icon to help inform of sarcasm or even a touch of facetiousness in the air. Kinda like a road sign but for the information super highway. Knowing is half the battle~
Now where is the icon for super-dickery, 'cause I need that one right now~

And I must ask, why in the world would you be so gung-ho to use the DC to play video files? It's really loud and the PS2, Xbox, GCN, etc play media just as well if not much better... So what's your heart-set reason my good chum?
Sorry to cause all the trouble over my lack of emoticon use.
hahaha, good analogy with the super highway.
Currently my dreamcast is my center piece in my room. I would just like to be able to use it to its fullest....playing video files just seemed to be a great way to go about doing that. With what im hearing though, for the amount of effort that i would have to go through to get it to work, I really wouldnt be able to appreciate it.

Thanks for the help guys. Truly appreciate it.

Now if he would have asked if the Dreamcast could play BetaMax or Umatic 3/4 THAT would have been funny.

Actually I have a bunch of random movie files on CDR.

I downloaded the Dreamcast Selection 2002 from DC evolution and the video player included played most of the avi files and some other formats. Just load up the program and switch disks.

http://dcevolution.net/downloads/collec ... update.rar

Of course this isn't really a great way to watch movies but it is kinda neat.

For DC, I don't fuck with anything but VHS. I've had all my GD games converted to VHS and have been more than happy ever since.

No one would have guessed that the long dead media of VHS would gain enough praise to catapult it back to the top. Just goes to show you that some things never die!

Yeah, VHS tapes are really good for gaming. No load times, and they last forever!

As much as you guys want to worship VHS I am sticking with Laserdisk.

It's a MOVIE on a DISK!

...It's just too bad that they are too physically big to stick in the Dreamcast...

I'm gonna beat Jimmy (2nd post in the thread) to the punch here...

"Just grab your Laserdisk, and shove it into the GD-ROM drive."
(It makes a lot of sense)

In this case, imitation is a form of flattery as I found the "original" quite funny ;) (It was obvious to me the OP was just kidding, but the outcome of the confusion was indeed worth it).
