Looking through your shots again, I can't decide whether I prefer the dithering or the sharpness of the modded Genesis...

Have you tried recapping any of your model 1s? I've found that replacing the caps practically eliminates the rainbow banding issue that the model 1 has.

Eliminated it on s-video or composite? Also it's not just rainbow banding the model 1 also has worse jailbars. From threads I've read jailbars are a flaw built into the vdp.

The jailbars are indeed a hardware flaw, but the rainbow banding through composite that's common on early model 1s is a capacitor issue. I recapped my VA1 Japanese Mega Drive a while ago and it completely eliminated the rainbow banding.

Well my va6 model 1 gave me noticable jailbars with the cxa2075 so I sort of shrugged and threw it back into the va1 model 2 which has much improved jailbars.
