I'm actually kinda dissapointed that it's not even a real Famicom... It's a Chinese knock-off.

Yea I'm quite aware. I was young when I bought this thing (13 maybe?) and when I saw this thing for $30 with a boxed game I nearly flipped. I though it was such a good deal I didn't want anyone else to get their hands on it (it was a buy it now). I kinda jumped the gun and bought it right away, actually within an hour of me finding the auction. I finally got it i nthe mail about a week later and started to notice some differences. The writing on the front was in another language like you pointed out. Plus the hard-wired controllers had turbo buttons and P2's controller had no speaker.

I went back to the auction page to search for an answer to this dilemma and when I got there in big bold letters in the item description it said "Not made by Nintendo". I was kind of bummed but it can really go off as real famicom to a n00b who doesn't know the difference and it plays games beautifully. I actually haven't played a game that hasn't booted up on the first try. No real problem but this summer I plan to get a either a real famicom plus the Famicom Disk System attachment or the Twin Famicom (boxed of course).

Yeah~ The big difference, even if you can't read Chinese or Japanese, it just doesn't say Famicom.

If you're planning on going to Japan to find stuff like that, Osaka is better for retro these days (better than Akihabara). In the 10+ years I've been going to Akihabara, it's slowly changed from electronics and games to anime, maid cafes, trendy shit, and games are the after thought it seems.

The last few times I went to Akihabara there were hardly any places left that sold retro stuff versus going to Osaka, there are tons on places that sell retro stuff. And since there are lots of places, not just in DenDenTown, you can get stuff cheaper than in Akihabara.

Yea I have a website that has great selection for a decent price and it comes straight from Osaka.
