I looked it up and supposed both Splenda and Equal are "known" to cause cancer. It seems like everything "causes cancer" now a days. Also... don't you smoke cigs?
Ive never heard of Splenda causing cancer, but Equal contains aspartame, which in high doses has been shown to cause strokes. Ive not seen evidence of aspartame causing cancer, but I know there were scares of it in the late 90s.

Smoking doesn't casuse cancer. Quitting smoking causes cancer.

For real, my grandpa smoked most of his life, since he was like 10 and I don't even want to know how many packs a day. Then at like 86, he quits smoking and dies. I swear, once you start, it keeps you going. haha

Kinda just replying to every one, I don't feel like making quotes.

Honestly, I couldn't care less if it is 100% proven to cause cancer or not. It's some kinda of engineered chemical, I don't file that under food. It falls into the same boat as high fructose corn syrup, preservatives, and all the other junk that's in most of our foods. Whether you believe in creation or evolution, our bodies were designed to consume things that the Earth produces (naturally). I don't believe the Earth has produced Equal and Splendor.

I've read that there's a very small percentage of people that can't break down aspartame (or whatever that chemical is) and if they consume enough it will make them mentally retarded.

I bet more things can cause cancer then we're actually aware of. If not cancer, still harmful to us. How many people died of any type of cancer in the early 1900's, or even earlier, compared to present day? I don't know the figures, but I know they're alarming. We have a tremendous amount of electronics. Every one has a cell phone and/or some other electrical device they carry on their person 24/7. We have TVs and computers, wireless routers in every home. Probably a ridiculous amount of radio waves compared to previous generations. And we eat a ridiculous amount of chemicals. And with the internet, we can expose ourselves to so many more things than the average person could back in the day. How many hobby solderers out there? Yeah, me too. Lead solder is known to the state of California to cause cancer.

One of my favorite quotes, I posted a short while back in this thread, "Spider poison is people poison?" Chlorine, it's poison. Yet we will drink it, bathe in it, swim in it, etc. Showers are probably the worst because the hot water opens your pours and there's a lot of steam. Yet we're not exposed to enough of it to make us sick, at least not that we're aware of. Mercury, it's poison. Yet we use it for dental fillings. It's in pesticides! Insect poison is people poison? I bet most of you have traces of mercury and/or chlorine in your bodies. Have you ever read about what's in vaccines? Or some vitamins?

And yes, I do smoke cigarettes. A guilty pleasure. Am I a hypocrite for having a chlorine filter on my shower head and for trying to avoid foods with chemicals but still smoke cigarettes? Not exactly. I realize how detrimental smoking is to my health. But like most smokers, I started when I was young and stupid. It's much easier to employ diet changes or put a new head on my shower then it is to quit smoking. Taking up mountain biking gave me a good reason to cut back, though we're in the off season now. Eventually I will quit, I just need to do it in my own way. And like I said before, it's never good to make large sudden changes. As far as I know, it's better to slowly cut back on smoking then it is to go cold turkey.

Despite my best efforts, there's a good chance I'll get cancer anyway. You too. I can't wait until our generation is in their 60's and 70's. I wonder how many people will have brain tumors from cell phone use. If not brain tumors, I'm sure cell phones and wifi will have some sort of negative effect on us all. It's worth noting that not all cell phones are the same though. I've had mine tested on me and apparently it doesn't have any negative effects on my body. Now if I could just quit smoking...

Well said Ziggy.

Despite that, I wont give up my High Fructose Corn syrup. Until I can buy sugar based Coke in a can again, I will have my HFC. I have cut most soda out of my diet, but a cold can of Coke just makes me feel better.

Stevia is just a plant so it's all good in my book. It won't sweeten quite as well as pure sugar obviously but it gets the job done for me. And for the record I was just being a dick with the smoking comment, I smoke too. I share all the sentiments you posted and then some.

I totally know what you mean. I used to smoke too and I was (and still am) paranoid about inhaling too much crap when blowing out candles, cleaning the house, using hairspray, and crap like that.

The "everyone is going to have cancer one day" thing is actually something I've been wanting to bring up but I'm always hesitant when it comes to "sensitive" topics. Whether it's what we eat, drink, or inhale, it's absolutely impossible to monitor it all and know exactly what's good or bad (besides what's already common sense). There are always health scares about food that's good/not good for you and I'm pretty sure that most of the time it's some kind of scam to start a trend. Like "gluten-free" food, as an example I think I've used before, to get you to eat whatever new expensive crap is out there, which will give you cancer. They're probably just trying to kill us off. Actually I doubt they even care enough to go through the trouble. They just use whatever cheap crap they can find to put into food so it'll be as cheap as possible to manufacture so we'll spend all of our money on the crap and cancer is just an inadvertent side effect. haha

:D I just won Paper Mario (for N64) on ebay for $17. I know that's not much less than what it usually goes for but I really miss that game and I'm glad it'll finally be mine again. :D
