What kind of homebrew does the GBA offer? I know there are flash carts for it, but can they do emulators? does the micro support them?
I'm pretty sure the Micro is compatible with GBA flash carts like the SP. There are emulators for Nes, SMS, and gb iirc.

I wouldnt want to play RPG's on a micro, only platformers and puzzle games imo.

i think it depends on where you're gonna play it. if you plan on using it when you're on the go i'd say hands down micro..it's definitely a lot smaller; plus you can't really tell it's a game boy. if you're just gonna play it at home i'd say get the sp cuz the screen is bigger. either way you can pick up flash carts for less than $40 that will let you play gb/gbc games on micro so i don't really consider that a hurdle.

Yeah I had not thought about being able to emulate Gb and GBC via the flash cart, either way I am getting both so I get to see the benefits of each one.

I finally got the micro and SP from the trade I made, and in the mean time I had picked up another SP off cragislist for $10 (the backlit model), and comparing the 2 versions of SP, there is no reason anyone should not be trying to get the backlit version. The difference in quality is huge.

Now that is out of the way, the micro is a bit of a surprise. The size of the screen, while initially seems a bit off putting since it is so much smaller, but when using it, you dont really even notice (I didnt play any text heavy games though) and I like the form factor of it. I like how small it really is and its portability, I think I will actually take this with me to play.

I am pleased with both game boys, and am surprised that I never owned either of these before, I went from the original GBA straight to the fat DS, which I owned and sold 3 times before getting a lite lol.

Now to build up my GB/GBA collection, which I am currently working on!

^^Awesome man! Each has their own advantages and disadvantages; for example, I tend to play RPGs on the micro as it is suited to minimal button pressing and it has a crisp screen (usually Pokemon). SP feels great for platformers because of its great d-pad and larger screen. If you need any recommendations, I can try to help as I am collecting for the GBA as well, only a few more to go that I want.

actually one thing I wasnt very impressed with was the SP's d-pad, it doesnt feel defined enough, I would much prefer the original GBA's dpad. The micro one is ok, kind of in between the original and sp.

I agree that the original GBA has better d-pad(it being raised) and shoulder buttons, if only it was backlit...

before I even considered the SP or micro I looked into options to light the original's screen, and it seems that none of the options are around any more, nor were they any good :( I much prefer holding the original to either of these.

Edit: has anyone taken the front light out of the 001 SP's and put it into the original GBA? I have seen it done to the NGPC (Which I am going to attempt tomorrow with a broken SP I picked up) and the GBC, but no mention of putting it into an original GBA. I understand that it might be redundant to take the light out of one GBA into another, but many people prefer the design of the original...

Double edit!!
