Silent Hill. After pt 3, it just lost its way and stopped being scary.

By that logic, RE lost its roots by *becoming* scarier. Not scary, but scarier. Sure, it's not exactly SH2 nowadays, but it's better than the supposedly shit-your-pants-worthy dog scene from RE1.

The Silent Hill series has started to pick back up actually. And Silent Hill 4 is pretty good (if you remain open-minded).

What about that awful Wii game, though?

I heard it was awful, might have heard wrong though. There's a lot of Wii hate on the interwebzorz, after all.

Ehh, there's a pretty big Silent Hill following that believes that anything not produced by "Team Silent" will always be trash. So pretty much games 1 through 4 is all they praise. There are a lot of haters out there for just about every game/series/whatever.

Isn't it true that there's zero combat in it, though?

Correct. Of course, Silent Hill never really emphasized combat until SH 4; you're a pretty formidable fighter in 4.

Part 4 had a really cool concept and I loved the 'room' idea. For me, the boatloads of backtracking and repetitiveness kind of ruined it though.

Homecoming was ok. My major issues were the controls were awful and from what I played, the story was meh. I never finished this one. I just couldn't get used to not being able to invert the Y axis.

Origins was really cool and I surprising loved this one. Being able to play Silent Hill on my PSP may have had something to do with it.

Shattered Memories was a awesome game........until you have to run from the monsters and the waggle controls are unresponsive and you die lots and lots and lots and lots of times. The game had some really cool ideas though.

I haven't lost complete faith in the series yet though. Its not like Konami has given Silent Hill the Sonic treatment yet.
